We Love MCR Charity are celebrating their 25th birthday with their most daring fundraiser ever, and they’re inviting brave Mancunians to take a “place on the rope”.
When most people think of charity fundraising, park runs and bake sales come to mind. But not the team behind local charity, We Love MCR.
In a challenge event decided by a public poll in January, 80 daredevil Mancs will take the lift to the roof of the 26-storey One Regent building in Castlefield on Saturday 16th July.
The views of Manchester’s incredible skyline from the roof are breath-taking, and not something that you get to see often.
After taking in the view, the brave participants will step off the edge and abseil down the 270-feet descent in this bucket-list challenge.
“We give heart and hope to Manchester, by awarding vital funds to support disadvantaged young Mancunians, and to support ambitious community projects,” said head of We Love MCR Charity, Ged Carter.
“If you want to show your love for Manchester, and take on the ultimate challenge, there are still some places left ‘on the rope!
“We dare you…”
In October We Love MCR held a Firewalk over red-hot coals in St. Peter’s Square, raising £18,000 for their work.
This year they’re going even bigger – well, higher at least…

If you’re after taking on a challenge for charity, check out the new I Love MCR Power Awards.
We’ve selected 10 charities, and asked them to give us 10 unique physical challenges for 10 powerful Mancs to take on.
You could power through Greater Manchester on a bike taking in all ten boroughs, try climbing the stairs of nine of the city’s tallest buildings, or run 81 miles to create a giant love heart around Manchester.
Whether you’d like to swim lengths in your local swimming pool to raise funds that will help transform the lives of children with disabilities or visit 40 Manchester venues accompanied by a 5ft cuddly monkey mascot, taking selfies along the way, there’s a challenge for everyone.
The I Love MCR Charity Foundation raises vital funds to improve the lives and community culture of people across Greater Manchester, and supports ten deserved beneficiary charities all based in the city region, who will all equally benefit from the I Love MCR Power Awards.
This means that money raised will go to support charities including Forever Manchester, Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity, and the Lord Mayor’s Charity Trust (aka We Love MCR Charity) as well as Brainwave, Cash For Kids, Wipe Your Tears, The Running Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, British Heart Foundation, and National Literacy Trust.
