Here at I Love MCR, we’ve spent over 10 years championing community and charity across the Greater Manchester.
Our new I Love MCR Power Awards are about to bring both together in spectacular fashion – with a healthy dose of competitive spirit, for good measure.
And you can be part of it.
Charities have been adversely affected by the ongoing pandemic. But we remain resilient, and we want to show that we are all in this together.
We know how to mobilise people across Greater Manchester to stand together. But our ambition is to get people active, create awareness of the work charities do, and create the biggest fundraising legacy event the city has ever seen.
So we’ve selected 10 charities, and asked them to give us 10 unique physical challenges for 10 powerful Mancs to take on.
The I Love MCR Charity Foundation raises vital funds to improve the lives and community culture of people across Greater Manchester, and supports ten deserved beneficiary charities all based in the city region, who will all equally benefit from the I Love MCR Power Awards.
Besides physical donations to the I Love MCR Charity Foundation, there will be other ways you can get involved too, including official merchandise and offers from local businesses. But best of all, at the end of the campaign each charity will receive an equal share of the fundraising pot.
This means that money raised will go to support charities including Forever Manchester, Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity, and the Lord Mayor’s Charity Trust (aka We Love MCR Charity) as well as Brainwave, Cash For Kids, Wipe Your Tears, The Running Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, British Heart Foundation, and National Literacy Trust.
From powering through Greater Manchester on a bike taking in all ten boroughs or climbing the stairs of nine of the city’s tallest buildings to running 81 miles to create a giant love heart around Manchester, all the challenges are designed to test your limits – for a great cause.
Whether you’d like to swim lengths in your local swimming pool to raise funds that will help transform the lives of children with disabilities or visit 40 iconic Manchester venues accompanied by a 5ft cuddly monkey mascot, taking selfies along the way, there’s a challenge for everyone. The challenges may be hard, but they’re full of heart – and great fun, too.
“Together we can make a difference,” said Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, who pledged to achieve change for the vast numbers of people experiencing homelessness across the city-region..
I Love MCR are now looking for ten individuals eager to take on the ten different challenges – so do you think you’ve got what it takes, or know someone who’d relish the challenge?
If so, you can find out more about each challenge and all the charities by clicking the button below.
We’re looking for great stories behind why people want to take on a particular challenge – and then there will be a public vote to decide who gets to take on each one. Of course, even if you’re not nominated, you can still take part in your own challenge and raise funds for the Manchester foundation.
Get involved with the I Love MCR Power Awards
Applications for the challenges will close a few days before each challenge begins.
I Love MCR will be sharing the progress of each challenge, and we’ll celebrate the champions at the International Suite of the Manchester Mercure Hotel on the 24th Nov 2022.
If you have the power to give something, you have a lot to gain.
Love Manchester? Now’s the time to prove it.
