Who are we
Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity raises funds to support homelessness initiatives across the city region and give out grants to good causes.
Nobody in our city region should be without a safe, secure place to call home. Yet in this complex and unjust climate, there are many for whom this is simply out of reach. It isn’t right. Not anywhere, but certainly not here.
What we fund
One of the biggest initiatives we support is A Bed Every Night (ABEN) – launched in autumn 2018, ABEN was set up by the Mayor as a humanitarian response to the rough sleeping crisis.
Our vision
A Bed Every Night is built on the principle that no one should be excluded from support and forced to sleep on the streets. In 2021/22 we funded 21,900 nights’ accommodation and with your support we can continue to fund this innovative and vital initiative.
The challenge
10:10 Challenge
To be completed: 27/06 – 10/07
For the first part of the challenge the chosen champion will do a ‘warm up’ ahead of the big event and each day over 10 days will come up with a physical challenge connected to the number 10 – whether that’s walking or cycling 10km, tackling 10 machines at the gym or 10 star jumps for 10 mins every hour!
For the next part of the challenge the contestant will take to their bike to encircle the place we call home – Greater Manchester. Taking in all the ten boroughs, and hitting landmarks in each of the ten town centres (selfies a must!) this 100km+ challenge will really test the limits!
How to apply
- Fill out the application form;
- You can apply to as many challenges as you want and the charities will determine the shortlist of the candidates;
- Wait to be shortlisted;
- Share this page to get votes;
- A member of the I Love MCR team will support you throughout your journey and assist in every step of the challenge;
- Donate and fundraise* via our official online fundraising partner, Givegain;
- Find your inner power, complete the challenge within the allocated timeline and become a champion.
*The challenger is encouraged to spread the word about the challenge to their networks, fundraise and encourage people to donate, however, I Love MCR will be promoting the initiative and helping to gather donations.
Terms and conditions
- The list of the landmarks you will need to visit and take a picture at will be provided to the selected challenger.
- You will need access to your own bicycle
- You can be supported by anyone on this journey
- You should expect the journey around the boroughs to take some time, but you must complete the entire route in one single day
- You will be expected to submit selfies at each location to record your journey
- The person accepting the challenge does it in their own time and the organisers and charity will not be liable in the event of any injuries or extra expenses
- The challenge must be completed within the designated dates
- You will need to commit to attending a video shoot with I Love MCR to help promote your challenge attempt.
- A member of I LOVE MCR will get in touch with the person selected and will help coordinate the challenge
