From Bury and Wigan to Urmston and Stockport, these are the best neighbourhood gems in Greater Manchester according to diner reviews

Each month, the booking platform OpenTable analyses more than 400,000 new diner reviews, and sort the results by category.

The reviews can only be made by diners who have eaten at the restaurants in question.

Now, using their research, they have revealed the best neighbourhood gems in Greater Manchester – according to diners.

Covering everywhere from Bury and Wigan to Didsbury and Stockport, these are the top 10.

Spice Mafia, Urmston

This Urmston restaurant specialises in authentic flavours inspired from Indian street and markets – and diners love it.

It’s scored an average of 4.9 out of five based on recent ratings, with 4.9 for both food and service, and 4.7 for ambience and value.

“Wonderful service, superb food, by far the best Indian food in Urmston, if not Manchester,” says one recent review, while others comment that it’s “probably the nicest curry I have ever had” with  “great vegetarian and vegan options.”

Hispi, Didsbury

A neighbourhood bistro from the team behind Sticky Walnut, Burnt Truffle, Wreckfish, Pinion and Kala, Hispi has lots of fans.

The Didsbury restaurant has received an average score of 4.8 based on recent ratings, from 1288 diner reviews, with 4.8 for both food and service, 4.6 for ambience and 4.5 for value.

“Incredible meal, lovely environment and fabulous service,” says one recent review, while another praises the “really good value and varied wine list.”

Dish Bar & Restaurant, Standish

This Wigan bar and restaurant with a small covered outside area for al fresco dining specialises in dishes from around the Mediterranean.

It has received an average score of 4.8 based on recent ratings, from 488 diner reviews, including 4.8 for both food and service, 4.7 for ambience and 4.6 for value.

“Picking was a challenge with so much choice,” says one recent review, with another says: “Fantastic food every time, service is friendly and perfectly timed.”

This neighbourhood restaurant and bar at the heart of Burton Road in West Didsbury serves a menu of small plates inspired by international travels.

It’s received an average score of 4.8 based on recent ratings, with 4.9 for food, 4.7 for both service and ambience, and 4.5 for value.

“The food was outstanding. The cocktails were amazing. The service was excellent. I really couldn’t fault it,” says one review, while another says it has “the best potatoes ever.”

Mi & Pho, Northenden

An award-winning, family-run Vietnamese restaurant in Wythenshawe, Mi & Pho is known for its authentic, fresh and healthy dishes.

Recent ratings give it an average score of 4.8, with 4.9 for both food and service, 4.6 for ambience, and an impressive 5 for value.

“It’s a place I just keep going back to,” says one recent diner, with another declaring it “a Manchester institution.”

Indique, Didsbury

Indique’s name has been coined by merging ‘Indian’ and ‘Unique’ – and they claim their head chef is “one of the best in the business”.

The restaurant has received an average score of 4.7 based on recent ratings, with 4.8 for food, 4.7 for service, 4.6 for ambience and 4.5 for value.

“The food is presented as though the chef trained at a fancy French restaurant but is still 100% delicious Indian food,” says one reviewer; “an absolutely fabulous meal” says another.

Alvarium & Lazy Tony’s Lasagneria, Northern Quarter

A friendly neighbourhood cocktail bar located in a secret corner of the Northern Quarter, Alvarium is also home to Lazy Tony’s Lasagneria.

It’s received an average score of 4.6 based on recent ratings, with 4.6 for both food and service, and 4.4 for ambience and value.

“Delicious food and great service, can’t wait to go back!” says a recent review, while one diner says “the mozzarella sticks are to die for.”

Home Sweet Home, Northern Quarter

This NQ favourite is all about generous helpings of comfort food and over-the-top indulgent treats.

It’s received an average score of 4.4 from 424 diner reviews, including 4.4 for both food and service, 4.3 for ambience and 4.4 for value.

“Fab food, lovely friendly staff and love their outdoor seating, perfect for a sunny lunch in NQ” says one reviewer, with another saying they were “really happy with the experience.”

Bistro Marc at Winter’s, Stockport

Bistro Marc at Winter’s is a new family-run French bistro based in a grade-II listed building in the heart of Stockport’s Old Town on Little Underbank.

Recent ratings give it an average score of 4.1, with 4.1 for food, ambience and value, and 4.2 for service.

“Great traditional French dishes, freshly cooked to order and all at a reasonable price. We will be back for sure,” says one recent review; a “great addition to Stockport,” says another.

The White Horse, Holcombe

This village pub and restaurant in Bury offers seasonal British favourites made with fresh local produce.

It’s received an average score of 4.1, with 4.1 for food, 4.4 for service, 3.8 for ambience and 4.1 for value.

“Lovely pub and friendly staff,” says one reviewer, with another saying: “Best Sunday lunch around, gravy is to die for! Amazing value and friendly service too, been a few times now and will return.”
