Since its inception in 2012, Hip Hop Chip Shop has been more than just a place to satisfy one’s cravings.

Their journey began with a mobile van fashioned to resemble a gigantic tape deck, serving delectable dishes at food markets and events throughout the north.

However, it was not only the perfectly executed fish and triple-cooked chips that won over patrons but also the team’s infectious love for hip-hop, which became an integral part of the experience.

Some of the nights they put on show include DJ battles, like the upcoming: “DJ Rasp presenting Slice & Dice Scratch Tournament Head 2 head freestyle scratch battles over hip-hop and boom bap instrumentals & Street Fighter 2 Comp.”

Today, the culinary venture has found a permanent home in Ancoats after opening its brick-and-mortar restaurant in 2018, while the iconic van has settled temporarily at the Carlton Club in Whalley Range.

At Hip Hop Chip Shop, the menu extends beyond traditional fish and chips, boasting an impressive range of options to tantalize every palate.

From mouthwatering chicken burgers to crispy fried halloumi fingers and even battered vegan fish steaks, their offerings cater to diverse tastes, ensuring a memorable dining experience for all.

However, The Hip Hop Chip Shop is not the only Greater Manchester Chippy to feature on the list.

Tony’s Chippy in Miles Platting has also claimed its rightful place on the top ten list, securing the seventh position.

With over three decades of serving the locals, Tony’s has garnered a reputation as one of the city’s finest chippies.

The secret to their success lies in their unwavering commitment to delivering golden, crispy fish and chips every time.

This accolade is not the first for Manchester’s chippies, as Chips at No. 8 in Prestwich previously secured a spot in the prestigious top 20 of the annual National Federation of Fish Fryers list, often referred to as the ‘chippy world cup.’

Betting company Betway compiled the data meticulously, considering Google ratings, Instagram hashtags, and TripAdvisor reviews to ensure that only the most deserving eateries made the cut.
