Hip Hop Chip Shop in Ancoats

We are truly blessed in the city for an incredible range of places to eat.

Ranging from world class Michelin Starred restaurants, to top draw sushi restaurants, steakhouses, Italians, Japanese restaurants the city has everything and anything your heart desires.

And even casual eats. Because sometimes you just cannot beat a good old chippy tea.

Talking of chip shops the super vibey Hip Hop Chip Shop in Ancoats has snagged an impressive second place on the prestigious list of the UK’s best chip shops.

The top spot belongs to The Mayfair Chippy in London, but Hip Hop Chip Shop is rapidly becoming a favourite, thanks to its explosive flavours and unique energy.

Combining classic chip shop fare with a modern twist, they’ve managed to captivate food enthusiasts and critics alike.

From the moment you step inside, the eclectic decor and hip-hop beats set the stage for a dining experience that’s as memorable as the food itself.

And they are getting recognised locally too – as they scooped the I Love MCR Award for the Most loved Casual Restaurant in 2023.

We are blessed with an amazing selection of chippies in the city, and the Hip Hop Chip Shop is up there with the best of ’em.

Since its inception in 2012, Hip Hop Chip Shop has been more than just a place to satisfy one’s cravings.

Their journey began with a mobile van fashioned to resemble a gigantic tape deck, serving delectable dishes at food markets and events throughout the north.

However, it was not only the perfectly executed fish and triple-cooked chips that won over patrons but also the team’s infectious love for hip-hop, which became an integral part of the experience.

Today, the top spot chip shop has found a permanent home in Ancoats after opening its brick-and-mortar restaurant in 2018, while the iconic van has settled temporarily at the Carlton Club in Whalley Range.

From mouthwatering chicken burgers to crispy fried halloumi fingers and even battered vegan fish steaks, their offerings cater to diverse tastes, ensuring a memorable dining experience for all.

However, The Hip Hop Chip Shop is not the only Greater Manchester Chippy to feature on the list.

Which other Manchester chip shops made the list?

Tony’s Chippy in Miles Platting has also claimed its rightful place on the top ten list, securing the seventh position.

With over three decades of serving the locals, Tony’s has garnered a reputation as one of the city’s finest chippies.

The secret to their success lies in their commitment to delivering golden, crispy fish and chips every time.

This accolade is not the first for Manchester’s chippies, as Chips at No. 8 in Prestwich previously secured a spot in the prestigious top 20 of the annual National Federation of Fish Fryers list, often referred to as the ‘chippy world cup.’

Betting company Betway compiled the data meticulously, considering Google ratings, Instagram hashtags, and TripAdvisor reviews to ensure that only the most deserving eateries made the cut.
