We all love national treasure Sir David Attenborough. His dulcet tones have captivated viewers since he first appeared on television over 60 years ago.

And to celebrate Attenborough’s 93rd birthday, Sea Life Manchester is inviting guests to dive into a relaxing afternoon inspired by the man himself.

This week, the Barton Square attraction will open its doors to celebrate the national treasure with an afternoon of yoga inspired by the soothing tones of Britain’s most loved broadcaster.

Lasting almost an hour, the ocean-themed session will take place in view of the attraction’s residents including giant green sea turtles, black tip reef sharks and cownose rays.

And the instructions for the yoga class will be narrated by a very recognisable, relaxing voice.

“For over 60 years, Sir David Attenborough has been a champion for the natural world and spoken on behalf of those creatures unable to speak,” said general manager Jenn McDonough.

“You would struggle to find a single person who has not been inspired by his tireless work and it felt only right that we did something special to celebrate his birthday.

“We have worked closely with our yoga partner to develop a unique session that will appeal to everyone. After all, how many chances are there to try the downward dog(fish)?”

Along with the opportunity for guests to dip their toes in the water and take part in the beginners yoga class, the attraction will draw back the curtain and allow guests to learn more about Sea Life Manchester’s ongoing conservation work.

Visitors will enjoy privileged access to working areas of the aquarium, including quarantine tanks and food preparation areas and a full guided tour of the attraction led by Sea Life Manchester Aquarists.

The event will be running from 2-3pm on Wednesday 8th May, with places being filled on a first-come first-served basis – you just need a normal ticket on the day and then to request a place on the yoga session at the desk. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and arrive early to avoid disappointment. Yoga mats will be provided on the day.
