Do you have a fledgeling superstar at home? The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is on the hunt for talented children to star in its celebrated production of Matilda The Musical!

Auditions for the roles of Matilda and her classmates will be held in Manchester this February and March, offering a once-in-a-lifetime chance for aspiring young performers to join the upcoming UK and Ireland tour.

This multi-award-winning musical, inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved tale, has dazzled audiences worldwide and will kick off its latest tour in Leicester on October 6th, 2025.

The tour will visit major cities including Manchester, where it will play at the Palace Theatre from March 26 to April 25, 2026.

Who Can Audition for Matilda The Musical?

The producers are looking for young performers bursting with talent:

  • Matilda: Girls aged 9 to 12 (as of July 1, 2025), under 4’3” tall, with outstanding singing and dancing abilities.
  • Classmates: Boys aged 9 to 13, under 4’10”, and girls aged 9 to 13, under 4’6”. Boys must have unbroken voices, and all children must live within an hour’s drive of Manchester.

What will the audition entail?

Auditionees will perform a poem, speech, or monologue, sing a short piece, and learn a dance from the show. Rehearsals are set for July and August 2025 in Manchester and London, with performances running from October 2025 to June 2026.

Since its debut, Matilda The Musical has enchanted over 12 million fans in more than 100 cities.

Known for its rebellious charm, stunning choreography, and unforgettable score by Tim Minchin, the show has scooped over 100 awards, including 24 for Best Musical. Its 15th-anniversary tour promises to be as magical as ever.

The stage show is directed by Matthew Warchus, with book by Dennis Kelly, music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, and choreography by Peter Darling.

The film adaptation, released to critical acclaim in 2022, recently delighted audiences on BBC1 and Netflix.
