Multi-award winning Damson restaurant has officially arrived at MediaCityUK – the first independent restaurant brand come to the venue. So, before our epic night at Circle Club beneath our new office (that’s a complete other story), we rode the Metro to MediaCity (our former base) for the launch party and sneak peek of MediaCity’s new restaurant.

“…the new location sees Damson embrace a wonderfully contemporary new home…”

It’s a lot bigger and spacious than we thought. The 140 cover MediaCityUK restaurant has everything you would expect from partners Steve Pilling and Simon Stanley – local and seasonal ingredients, top regional suppliers, understatedly elegant surroundings and creative simplicity on the plate. However, the new location sees Damson embrace a wonderfully contemporary new home with state of the art features including private dining area, breakfast meeting options, chefs table, standalone bar and fabulous views across the piazza from the floor to ceiling windows – perfect for watching the media world go by!

The occasion was marked on Thursday night (the townies Saturday night) with a launch party fit for its surroundings, as the BBC, ITV and many of the businesses from MediaCityUK’s creative hub, turned out in force to celebrate this fantastic new addition to their neighbourhood. Guests, including Director of BBC North, Peter Salmon.

The restaurant is easily reachable from Manchester city centre with a regular direct Metrolink tram stopping outside and taking about 15 minutes.

I Love MCR, along with other media entities from Manchester city centre such as our media partners VIVA Magazine, Jennie McAlpine and friends from Manchester Confidential, enjoyed samples of the Damson menu, drinks reception, and a sneak peek of the venue before it opens to the public (now open).

Our favourite canapé was the Potato & parmesan gnocchi, sautéed wild mushrooms with parsley & garlic, slow cooked egg yolk, salted crushed hazelnuts, potato & truffle foam which is on the menu for £7.95.

They’ll be serving Sunday lunch featuring ‘the best gravy in the north’ according to Manchester Food and Drink Festival.

Damson was established in 2009 by Steve Pilling and Simon Stanley. Known as the ultimate neighbourhood restaurant, the team have been bringing beautiful food to the suburbs for the last 3 years, and have picked up a cluster of awards and plaudits in the process. Together Steve and Simon have received more awards collectively from the Manchester Food and Drink Festival than anyone else in its history.

The restaurant is also working in partnership with Salford City College via an apprenticeship scheme within their hospitality course, as part of the College’s £7m Futureskills investment in the area. Damson opening in MediaCityUK has created approximately 60 jobs, which is always a plus for our community and economy.

The restaurant is now open to the public, so go see for your self…
