Renowned illustrator Stanley Chow is set to captivate art enthusiasts with a unique exhibition at The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre in Chorlton.

Showcasing his personally curated collection of iconic actors from stage, film, and television, this special event is a must-see for fans and art lovers alike.

The exhibition is scheduled to run from Thursday, 15th February, to Thursday, 30th May 2024, at The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre, located at Manchester Road, Chorlton, Manchester M21 9JG.

A Glimpse into Stanley Chow’s World

With a career spanning nearly thirty years, Stanley Chow has become a household name in the art world.

Best known for his distinctive portraiture of pop stars, actors, sports personalities, and celebrities, Chow’s work has left an indelible mark on Manchester’s art scene.

A Focus on Film, Stage, and Television

For the first time, Stanley Chow is directing his artistic lens towards a collection centred around the world of film, stage, and television.

The exhibition promises a delightful exploration of his back catalogue, featuring BAFTA, Emmy, Olivier, and Academy Award winners.

Notably, the display will include the unveiling of Chow’s design of Sir Mark Rylance, making its public debut.

About Stanley Chow

Stanley Chow was born and raised in Manchester by parents who emigrated from Hong Kong.

He started off in the city as a DJ in various nightclubs and bars and began designing posters and flyers for events, including The Roadhouse and Night & Day where some of his work adorns the walls.

While out he would spend time sketching his friends, who included Elbow frontman Guy Garvey, using simple line strokes which eventually became the defining style of his work.

Stan’s career took off when Jack and Meg White from US band, The White Stripes spotted his work and subsequently commissioned him to create artwork for their Icky Thump album, which led to a Grammy nomination in the ‘Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition’ category.

Internationally, Stan’s clients include Saatchi & Saatchi, McDonald’s, WWE and Wired magazine.

He also regularly supplies illustrations to The New Yorker magazine and as well as producing images for articles has created portraits of a number of The New Yorker’s featured contributing staff.

In 2015 Stan was commissioned by the New York Times Magazine to create their front cover.

The design featured a photograph of a metallic helium balloon depicting the face of Donald Trump floating away, which the former president referred to as ‘ridiculous!’

A lifelong Manchester United fan, Stan has a permanent football exhibition in Hotel Football, Old Trafford.
