Littleborough’s local legend celebrates an incredible 35 years of helping others

Littleborough’s beloved school crossing patrol officer, Jacqueline Robinson, is being celebrated for her remarkable 35 years of dedicated service.

Since 1988, Jacqueline has been ensuring the safety of children at Stansfield Hall Primary School, becoming a familiar face and an unsung community hero in the process.

In a heartwarming surprise, Councillor Shah Wazir, cabinet member for highways and facilities at Rochdale Borough Council, visited Jacqueline during her afternoon shift to personally express her gratitude for her outstanding contributions.

A Littleborough Local Legend

Councillor Wazir described her as a “local legend in Littleborough” and commended her for being the longest-serving school crossing patrol officer in the area.

Jacqueline, now 75 years old, never expected her temporary role to become a lifelong commitment.

Initially, she agreed to help out until a replacement could be found, but over the years, she grew to love her job and the community she served.

With an exemplary record and a warm smile for everyone she meets, Jacqueline has become an integral part of countless residents’ lives, having watched generations of children grow up.

Reflecting on her remarkable achievement, Jacqueline expressed her surprise at the passing of 35 years: “The years have gone by so quickly; it doesn’t feel like that long.

“I like making myself useful, keeping busy, and I’ve grown to love the job.”

Her dedication extends beyond her crossing patrol duties, as she also works at the school as a lunchtime organiser between her morning and afternoon shifts.

Jacqueline’s impact goes far beyond the immediate safety she ensures for the children.

She has built lasting connections with families and drivers alike, recognising parents who were once students at Stansfield Hall Primary School and now entrust their own children’s safety to her care.

Her friendly demeanour and commitment to her role have won her the respect and admiration of the community.

While Jacqueline looks forward to the summer break and spending quality time with her loved ones and her beloved dog, retirement is not on her horizon.

She eagerly anticipates returning to work, missing the children’s smiles and the school community’s camaraderie. Her dedication and enthusiasm remain unwavering.

As the council continues to seek new school crossing patrol officers to fill vacancies, Jacqueline wholeheartedly recommends the job to others.

Jacqueline emphasises the majority of drivers’ courtesy and respect, acknowledging the support she receives from her supervisor, Nicola, and the council’s provision of uniforms and necessary equipment.
