Located in the heart of Manchester’s city centre, The Shakespeare Pub on Fountain Street has reopened after an extensive renovation aimed at breathing new life into the historic venue.

After closing its doors in September, the pub has undergone a complete transformation, blending a refreshed exterior with a revitalised interior. The upgrades enhance its charm while preserving the welcoming atmosphere that has made it a favourite gathering spot for both locals and visitors.

Inside, the pub has received a complete makeover that breathes new life into one of the city’s oldest pubs, where the newly revived establishment pays homage to its storied past while offering modern comforts for visitors.

New exposed brick walls, Shakespearean prints and paintings, plush seating, and carefully chosen contemporary décor offer a sweet blend of tradition and style that invites guests to settle in and enjoy its unique atmosphere.

Along with its aesthetic updates, the pub has adopted a refined colour scheme and modern conveniences, including fully refurbished restrooms and a cosy built-in log fire, creating an even more inviting setting for everyone to enjoy.

Disguised TV screens have been installed to accommodate patrons who wish to watch sports, hold business meetings, or celebrate special occasions in a welcoming yet versatile setting, dedicated to accommodating everyone’s needs.

The exterior has also been refreshed, with the signature black-and-white oak timbers newly painted and traditional signage refreshed. A tasteful array of real flowers and greenery now adorns the doorway to great guests, creating an inviting charm that draws people in.

To accompany the renovation, The Shakespeare has launched a new menu, featuring sharable small plates, classic pub fare and a competitive Sunday Roast menu.

Breakfast at The Shakespeare

Breakfast is served daily from 8 am and for families seeking a bit of respite from the bustling streets nearby, the pub now offers a dedicated children’s menu, making it a welcoming destination for all ages.

The upgraded drinks menu includes a variety of spirits, wines, and an expanded selection of draught beers and ales, including Greene King’s Level Head and Hazy Day IPA, seasonal treats like hot mulled wine, and non-alcoholic options such as the 0% Estrella Glacier on tap.

Conveniently located right by the Market Street tram stop and Piccadilly Gardens,  the site also welcomes dogs, ensuring every member of the family feels at home.

Beyond the visual improvements, the investment has provided over 25 new job opportunities for the local community, fostering community growth and providing fresh opportunities for locals in both front and back-of-house roles.

Sarah McGory, General Manager of The Shakespeare

Sarah McGory, General Manager of The Shakespeare said“Our team at The Shakespeare is thrilled to re-open our doors to the community, showcasing the pub’s new life and vibrant offerings.

“The Shakespeare remains a pillar of Manchester’s local community, and we can’t wait to welcome familiar faces and new visitors for an even richer experience.”

Welcoming some festive cheer, the pub hosts a full calendar of events, including festive bauble painting, Sip and Paint evenings, live music every Sunday, and even a Paranormal Night exploring its storied—and perhaps haunted—history.

Located at 16 Fountain Street, The Shakespeare reopened in November and is ready to welcome all who seek a warm meal, a hearty drink, and a dash of history in the heart of the city.
