The bustling energy and quirky charm of Manchester’s Market Street have been captured in stunning detail by master LEGO builder Alex Hui.

Originally from Hong Kong and now a proud resident of Manchester for the past two years, Alex has brought his passion for LEGO to new heights, meticulously recreating the iconic (some might say notorious) street in miniature form.

Alex, who shares his incredible creations on his Facebook page, Lego Masterpiece Creator, was inspired by the dynamic spirit of Manchester’s city centre

In an interview with I Love Manchester, Alex shared insights into his passion for LEGO and his journey to making Manchester his home.

Breathtaking attention to detail

He said: “I was born in Hong Kong and moved to Manchester with my family two years ago.

“Manchester is vastly different from Hong Kong, and everything here has left a lasting impact on me.

“As life continues, I’ve decided to use LEGO to document this lovely place I now call home.

“The first time I visited, I fell in love with Market Street—it’s a place where Manchester’s history, diverse culture, and modernity all come together.”

We have to say, it’s rare to find someone who loves Market Street, but we love Alex’s incredible enthusiasm and immense skill.

The details in Alex’s models are incredible, with each one depicting memorable scenes: balloon salespeople wandering the area, businessmen with suitcases on their way to work, builders in high-visibility vests contributing to the ever-expanding skyline, and skateboarders gliding by—every aspect of daily life is captured.

“I have been a LEGO lover since childhood, and I believe that LEGO bricks are a fantastic medium for artistic creation,” Alex added.

The detail is incredible

We asked him how he created such an in depth model.

Alex said: “For this project, I built the whole street with buildings, and my wife Josephine and five-years-old son Matthias built all the mini figures scene, as you can seen their names on the creator tag.

“This vibrant city has left an indelible mark on me, and I’ve chosen to express its charm through a series of LEGO miniature creations.

“First launch model is a street corner in the heart of Manchester, an intersection where history, culture, and modernity converge.

“The city planning here is nothing short of remarkable.

“As I first set foot in this spot, I was captivated by the energy, the architecture, and the people. It felt like the pulse of Manchester—the essence of its prosperity.”

And Alex isn’t done yet.

He said his Market Street model is just the beginning of a wider project to capture Manchester that evolves with our ever changing skyline.

Alex continued: “With LEGO bricks, I aim to present the spirit of Manchester—the blend of history, the vibrant street life, and the architectural that define the cityscape.

“Manchester Impressions isn’t about deadlines or rigid plans,” Alex said.

“I will add more details, expand the scene in future, and I hope the project will be done in no pressure, with no schedule and just fuelled by joy.

The model will record the city’s growth. The possibilities are as limitless as the city itself. And as I share my progress, I hope fellow LEGO enthusiasts and Manchester lovers will find joy in this ongoing project.”
