A proper traditional fish and chips is the cornerstone of northern life.

Whether it’s Fish Friday, you’re picking up a chippy tea after work or just fancy a little comfort food at lunchtime, nothing quite beats the taste of classic fish and chips from a chippy.

The essentials are simple; crisp, golden batter encasing soft flaky fish and of course, some signature deep-fried spuds and mushy peas. Curry sauce is optional.

National Fish and Chip Day on 2nd June celebrates everyone’s favourite dish. And what better way to mark it than with a chippy tea?

At the very least order a chip barm! Here’s our pick of the best fish and chips in Manchester…
