Stockport is a place that is definitely on the up, and it looks as though more is to come.
The Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation have revealed how their groundbreaking new £350m development, Stockport 8 could look.
And we think it’s pretty tidy.
Stockport 8

Stockport was recently named the ‘Best Place to Live in the North West’ in the annual Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide.
And Stockport 8 looks like its going to bolster the town’s already impressive reputation amongst those that know.
They’ve got a flourishing high street, and not many towns in the UK can say that at the minute.
The new development will be a mixed residential neighbourhood, situated to the west of Stockport town centre.
It promises to be a cutting-edge addition to the region, reconnecting and revitalising the area beneath the iconic railway arches.
It is said to be part of one of the largest regeneration projects in the UK
Located on land on either side of King Street West and next to the iconic railway viaduct, it will be one of the largest developments within the 130-acre Town Centre West masterplan, reconnecting the area to the town centre and creating a walkable, integrated community under the railway arches.
“Breathing life back in to stockport”
Stockport Council said the scheme would bring “life back to what was once a thriving residential neighbourhood”.
1,200 new homes at Stockport 8
It promises to deliver 1,200 new homes and and the creation of a new “walkable neighbourhood” with leisure amenities and new green spaces.
The scheme is expected to “reconnect the site to nearby neighbourhoods and the town centre, bringing life back to what was once a thriving residential neighbourhood under the railway arches”.
Stockport 8 is central to the wider £1 billion investment currently being delivered across the town centre and is at the heart of the £500 million Stockport MDC Town Centre West masterplan, which will transform Stockport into the most sustainable, liveable town centre in the region over the next decade.
The 130-acre masterplan will see the delivery of 4,000 new homes, alongside local amenities, green spaces, new workspace and radical transport improvements.
Vinci contractors
Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) and ECF – a joint venture between Homes England, Legal & General and Muse – have selected Vinci as the preferred contractor to bring forward Phase 1 of Stockport 8.
The selection follows a collaborative dialogue tender process, which ultimately saw Vinci successful. Vinci will now work alongside the project team in design development and subject to planning approval, will start on site in Q1 2026, with the demolition of the existing bus depot.

There was a lot of support for providing green and outdoor spaces, alongside a mix of new homes to suit everyone. We also heard loud and clear how important it is to celebrate Stockport’s rich heritage and unique character.
“We’re going to be back out in the local community over the next few weeks to share some of the key themes from the feedback and show how the plans have evolved. Our aim has always been to create a thriving, inclusive neighbourhood that will deliver the needs of Stopfordians now, and for generations to come, so we’re excited to share the revised plans with local people and businesses and get their views.”
