Once you go black: limited edition Black Milk comes to Manchester

To celebrate Black Friday, popular Manchester dessert cafe Black Milk are living up to their name and serving BLACK MILK. Yes, you read that right. The white stuff has been turned black.

They’ve been working with their local dairy partner along with an artisan ice cream farm to produce what they call the most unique milkshake they’ve served to date using ‘black-out’ vanilla ice cream and milk.

Having had the opportunity to try this quirky refreshment, I am thrilled to say it is much more delicious than it looks. This mysterious looking milkshake will tickle your tastebuds with its rather unique flavour.

I was slightly worried that it was going to be a case of the green ketchup all over again – something that you like the idea of but you don’t necessarily want it in your mouth. None of that here because it tastes amazing.

If I could describe it in one word it would be Oreo-esque – despite no Oreos being used. Black magic!

Served in a recyclable glass bottle, this wacky and weird creation is only available until Sunday evening – 25th November. So hurry yourself along to the Black Milk Northern Quarter cafe – or if you’re feeling lazy, get an order put in on Deliveroo.

Also on the Black Friday theme, they are also serving a black-out cake, giving you the opportunity to enjoy a totally delicious combination of shake and cake completely without colour – the Black Freak Shake!

In the last three years, Black Milk have outgrown their first home in Afflecks, moving to their current location on Oldham Street. They’ve also opened cafes in Bolton and London’s Soho, with more locations in the pipeline.

The cake-filled menu includes some of the best desserts in Manchester – fact! – along with milkshakes, freakshakes, hot chocolate and coffee. Open 7 days a week, there really is no excuse for you not to eat cake!

Black Milk really is a must-try this weekend. Medium black-out shakes are £4, with a larger one priced at £6.
