Time to dust off the flat caps and waistcoats – Manchester’s first Peaky Blinders themed bar is due to open this weekend.

As we revealed last month, the bar, restaurant and live music venue inspired by the Peaky Blinders hit TV series and the whole era from which the show takes its name is taking shape at the former Sakana bar on Peter Street.

Now bosses have confirmed the fit out will be complete in time to open on Friday 7th December.

Peaky Blinders Manchester will incorporate key elements from the TV show including character stills, show artwork and décor. It means fans will be fully immersed in the Peaky Blinders experience from the moment they walk in to the ground floor transformed into a 1920s style beer hall, cocktail bar and live music venue.

But while the TV show is about the notorious Birmingham gangsters led by Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy), bosses have stressed the theme bar will be a warm, welcoming, enjoyable place to be.

Guests will be greeted by hosts in themed attire, beer will be served in tankards, and expertly created period cocktails inspired by the show will be served in vintage glassware, alongside contemporary favourites too.

Live music will provide a lively soundtrack from Thursday through to Sunday, and we can expect a “singalong party vibe from a wide variety of genres from funk, soul and Motown to disco, rock n roll, indie and pop”.

There are currently two Peaky Blinders venues in operation in the UK, both owned by the same company.

One based in Southport is a Peaky Blinders bar set in a Victorian canopied boulevard offering B&B accommodation.

The bar has 1920s themed décor with Victorian pillars, over 16 draught beers and an extensive bottled selection – as well as a quirky cocktail list including Angry Arthur’s, The Aunt Polly and Grace’s Secret.

The other opened in Liverpool’s Cains Brewery Village last year and has already become a huge attraction. It’s much larger in size and spread over two floors with 1920s décor, large images from the TV series and iconic period features.

Food at Peaky Blinders Manchester will come courtesy of Ocean Treasure owner Simon Yip (part of the established Chi Yip supermarket and wholesale group), who were operating the Sakana building before the transformation.

They have partnered with the new owners and will be serving up their acclaimed Chinese cuisine upstairs in the restaurant as usual. Simon and his renowned team will also be providing a menu of small plate dim sum for customers who wish to dine downstairs in the bar.

The bar launch comes just weeks after the cast of Peaky Blinders filmed around the city for the upcoming fifth series of the hit BBC show.

And it will join the burgeoning bar and restaurant scene at the Peter Street and Deansgate junction in Manchester, which boasts recent new additions Manahatta and Chinawhite on Deansgate, alongside established favourites including Albert’s Schloss and Impossible on Peter Street.

Peaky Blinders Manchester opens from Friday 7th December.
