You wait ages for a new late-night bar to launch in Manchester then two come along at once.

London celebrity haunt Chinawhite has just opened inside the historic Milton Hall on Deansgate, while new late night bar Vanitas launched inside Manchester Hall last week.

Here we take a look at both venues in their historic locations, what you can expect and the times you can get in.

It’s a feast for the eyes from the moment you walk into new late night bar Vanitas in Manchester Hall on Bridge Street.

The new venue has been created inside the old Memorial Hall section of the Grade II-listed former Freemasons building, and uses the vast space and its huge arched ceiling and Greco-Roman style columns to dramatic effect.

The architectural grandeur is teamed with a sophisticated new lighting scheme, a DJ booth based in an old church pulpit and state-of-the-art sound system.

The whole venue is themed around its Vanitas name – a word which usually refers to the inevitability of death.  But here it is interpreted as a Day of the Dead theme – with the team from Scene My Event providing a roster of artists, fire-breathers, DJs and acrobats all dressed in skulls, flowers and masks as the night progresses.
