The first spirit product from the newly formed Northern Quarter Liquor Company, launches across Manchester this week.

N/Q London Dry Gin is made in small batches here in Manchester, from a single copper still.

The Northern Quarter Liquor Co. is the brainchild of Paul Greetham, the founder of Beatnikz Republic Brewing Co., an award-winning craft brewery based in the Green Quarter.

The gin is comprised of juniper and citrus flavours made with ten botanicals including grapefruit, sweet orange, lemon and green cardamom.

“I’ve always been inspired by the vibrancy, youthfulness and individuality of the Northern Quarter,” says Paul.

“In addition to the brewery, I also opened the Beatnikz Republic NQ Bar the corner of Tariff and Dale Street on in 2018 so I’m able to really understand the style and culture of the area – contemporary, modern and always evolving.

“We want the Northern Quarter Liquor Co. to be known as the alternative indie liquor from Manchester.

“Our branding is modern and bold, which perfectly fits the Northern Quarter ethos of confidence, ambition and creativity – our gin is a tribute to such a hugely iconic area of the city.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard to develop the product and brand to create a gin that genuinely tastes amazing, and we’re confident that N/Q London Dry Gin will appeal equally to those who are already gin lovers, and new customers who are looking to expand their palates and discover new flavour experiences.”

The gin, which costs £36.95 for a 70cl bottle, will be available from various independent outlets and food halls across the city centre and beyond, including Ancoats General Store, MediaCity General Store, Deansgate General Store, Stretford Foodhall, Sale Foodhall, Epicurean Ancoats, Hops & Boogie Sale, Artichoke Chester, Beatnikz Republic Bar NQ, Beatnikz Republic Brewing Co. (taproom), Crown & Anchor, Lättsam, City Arms, Proof Chorlton and Gnome & Away Chester, as well as direct from nqliquor.co.uk.

And the new drinks brand has big plans for the future.

“N/Q London Dry Gin is just the beginning for us,” says Paul.

“We plan to release a range of different drinks, including an N/Q Jamaican Funk Rum which is inspired by Jamaican rum tradition.

“Next will be our N/Q Single Grain Vodka, which is a full bodied, smooth and slightly sweet vodka, perfect for cocktails.

“We’re also planning to create innovative canned cocktails as well as hard seltzers for the summer.

“We’re only a small local indie business, but we think we can create drinks that people will love.”
