Indy retailer General Store already has shops in Ancoats and MediaCityUK, with a new store coming to Kampus in Manchester city centre in the autumn, plus two new Foodhalls in Sale and Northwich announced for this year.

Now they have launched their latest ‘cornershop’ concept: Deansgate Square General Store.

From 19th August, the 4,500sq ft unit will be open to the general public, as well as servicing more than 3,000 residents in the impressive skyscrapers surrounding the new site which boasts the city’s only riverside square.

Deansgate Square General Store will have the largest retail offering of the brand’s ‘cornershop’ venues, with the shopping experience championing local makers from food and drink to homeware.

With floor to ceiling windows, striking neon lights, a digital ticker tape style LED display. and futuristic shopping aisles, Deansgate Square General Store is the latest evolution of the brand, with the experience designed specifically to suit the newest location.

At the new city centre venue there will also be a coffee shop on site, plus an alcohol emporium with tasting area, local fresh baked goods and zero-waste, essential household refill stations.

The region’s best-loved independent food brands will be in stock, from Nell’s Pizza to The Great North Pie Company, alongside convenience store essentials from toothpaste to toilet paper and baked beans to bread.

An on-site coffee counter will serve up freshly ground Ancoats Coffee, as well as juices, smoothies and cold brews.

There also will be regular guest spots in the new store from the likes of Just Natas and Cafe Lupo Italiano, who will be popping in with fresh, local bakes, cakes and more.

The arrival of Deansgate Square General Store also means the Store Retail Group have created 25 new jobs as the group looks to expand its new team, with new roles in retail and hospitality created.

“Things have come together at Deansgate Square!” said Mital Morar, founder of Store Retail Group.

“We’ve been working behind the scenes to make this a truly special experience for the community with a lot of exciting new collaborations on the horizon.

“We see this as an important moment on our journey, and we can’t wait to share everything we have been working on and bring our concept to this part of the city.”
