A new era of high-end dining and hospitality is coming to Manchester, as Nobu Hospitality – the luxury brand partly owned by Hollywood icon Robert De Niro – reveals plans to launch a lavish hotel and restaurant within the city’s tallest tower.
The Nobu Hotel Manchester will occupy a prominent position in Viadux-2, a 76-storey skyscraper that’s currently under construction next to the Manchester Central Convention Centre. Set to open its doors as the first Nobu hotel outside London, this development promises to bring an exceptional luxury experience to the city, with an exclusive hotel, celebrity favourite restaurant, and stunning Nobu-branded residences.
Nobu, Manchester
The new 160-room hotel will be a celebrity hotspot, offering the signature Nobu dining experience loved by A-list stars across the globe. The project, in partnership with property developers Salboy, will feature not only the hotel and restaurant but also 452 high-end residences, making it the first Nobu-branded homes in the UK.
These residences will embody the true Nobu lifestyle with thoughtful design details influenced by Japanese culture, offering an unparalleled living experience. Residents will enjoy world-class amenities, including Nobu’s renowned dining service, a luxury spa, exclusive swimming pool, a gym, and beautifully landscaped podium gardens.
Viadux 2a
Salboy had initially planned for Viadux 2a to be an all-residential building, but in a significant shift, the plans were altered to incorporate a hotel. When complete, the building will stand at 246 meters, overtaking the Deansgate South Tower to become Manchester’s tallest building, outside of London. The decision on planning permission is expected soon, with construction already well underway.
Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, expressed excitement at the venture, highlighting Manchester’s growing global stature and vibrant culture as key factors in their decision to bring Nobu to the city. “Manchester is an emerging global hub for luxury living, and we are thrilled to contribute to its evolution,” Horwell said.
“Working alongside world-class partners like Salboy, Fred Done, and Simon Ismail, we look forward to blending the Nobu experience with the spirit of this incredible city.”
Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa
Nobu, founded in 1994 by acclaimed Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and film producer Meir Teper, has expanded beyond its celebrated restaurant empire to include 46 hotels and 20 residences globally. The brand is known for its fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, with dishes that have earned global acclaim.
Fred Done, Co-founder of Salboy and Betfred, praised Nobu for its consistent excellence in dining, noting the impact it has had on culinary standards worldwide. “Having travelled the world for decades, Nobu is the gold standard for fine dining. I’m delighted to bring this level of sophistication to Manchester.”
The £360 million development is expected to redefine the city’s luxury offerings and elevate Manchester’s reputation on the global stage.
Simon Ismail, Co-founder of Salboy
Simon Ismail, Co-founder of Salboy, expressed pride in the project’s potential to bring a transformative experience to the city. “Chef Nobu’s culinary innovations have shaped modern dining, and we are thrilled to bring his world-class vision to Manchester.”
With this exciting new addition to the skyline, Nobu Hotel Manchester is poised to make a lasting mark on the city’s luxury hospitality landscape.
