Thousands of people will flood the city’s streets on Sunday 19th June when the famous Manchester Day returns to celebrate the city, its people and all things Mancunian.

After a two-year absence due to COVID, the city’s favourite day of the year is back for 2022 and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

The free celebration will include once again the legendary Manchester Day Parade, which will weave its way through the city.

If you’d liken to be at the heart of the action, the council are now looking for dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to help bring the streets alive.

Volunteers will have behind the scenes access, and a vital role in delivering the spectacle that will be Manchester Day 2022.

From setting up the parade, to helping visitors find their way and assisting the creatives involved, there’s something for everyone to get involved with on Manchester Day.

Roles available include Wayfinding Volunteers, Participant Support Volunteers and Creative Volunteers to help ensure the parade runs smoothly and that everyone has a brilliant time.

Volunteers will have a wide range of responsibilities; they will be positioned all around the city and will be assisted by a Team Leader who’ll be available to help them throughout the day.

Before the day, volunteers can dedicate as much time as they want, from a few hours to a few weeks, and the experience will give you the opportunity to work with established carnival artists with a hands-on involvement in creating the Manchester Day spectacle.

“It’s great that Manchester Day is returning to the city, Manchester Day’s success relies on the passion of our thousands of volunteers who dedicate their time each year,” said  Councillor Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day.

“The day would not be the same without the enthusiasm of our army of volunteers.

“I can’t wait to see people get involved in the parade – if this is your first Manchester Day, I can guarantee you’re going to love it!”

Manchester Day will take place on Sunday 19th June 2022. Applications to volunteer are open until 31st May. For more information on how to get involved, visit manchesterday.co.uk/volunteer.
