GRUB first launched as a pop-up in 2014, and has since become Manchester’s biggest street food event.
Over the past five years, they’ve grown to a weekly three day street food event (including Europe’s first weekly vegan street food fest), which is about to expand again. They’ve also opened their own dedicated gig venue, Fairfield Social Club, as well as a micro cinema: Chapeltown Picture House.
Not only that, but just last week the GRUB team won their second Manchester Food & Drink Festival award for the foodie event or project of the year.
They’ve got a lot to celebrate. So they’re throwing a big birthday party – and they’re inviting all of Manchester to join them for a pint. Party guests will also be the first to find out exactly where the all new permanent GRUB venue will be located.
And there’s the chance to win some prizes, too. The first 200 punters arriving each day will get to draw from a tombola. Everyone will win something, with prizes including a £100 bar tab and a free dinner.
The food trader line up will feature some of the best street food chefs in the UK, including Wallace & Sons, The Ottomen, Wholesome Junkies, Parmstar, Seitan’s Kebab, Mia’s Arepas, Osaka Local, Knead Pitta, Bakeorama, Chou Choux Patisserie, Geordie Soul and Huns.
All traders will be going 100% plant powered on the Sunday, as is tradition.
The birthday weekend will also feature a mini beer festival with over 20 lines of the best craft beer around including a scotch bonnet and mango sour beer from Runaway Brewery and street food superstars, Holy Crab.
There will be a top DJ line-up, too, plus a bouncy castle, a karaoke room and giant screen Mario Kart.
“It’s pretty crazy to look back on where we came from, a pitch on Levy Market once a month as traders ourselves not knowing what we were doing, and now we’ve got this amazing event full of brilliant traders that thousands of lovely folk come to every single week,” says director Jason Bailey.
“We can’t wait to let everyone know what we’re up to next, either!”.
GRUB’s 5th Birthday Party kicks off Friday 18th October from 4pm and runs until Sunday 20th at 6pm. The event is free entry, no tickets are needed and families and dogs are welcome. The event can be found at Unit 5, Great Northern Warehouse, M3 4EN.
