The Métiers d’Art Chanel show, also known as the Chanel Métiers d’Art collection, is an annual fashion presentation by the iconic French luxury fashion house Chanel.

This event is distinct from the regular fashion weeks, such as Paris Fashion Week or Milan Fashion Week, and it holds a special place in Chanel’s calendar.

The 2023/24 collection – a celebration of the savoir-faire of Chanel’s metiers d’art – will be unveiled on 7 December.

Métiers d’Art Chanel show

This highly anticipated event promises to be a celebration of the exquisite craftsmanship that defines Chanel’s Métiers d’Art, and the choice of Manchester as the host city adds a unique and intriguing dimension to this fashion extravaganza.

The Métiers d’Art collection is an opportunity for Chanel to showcase and celebrate the exceptional craftsmanship and artisanal skills of the various ateliers and artisans (known as “Métiers d’Art”) that work with the fashion house.

These ateliers specialize in various crafts like embroidery, featherwork, shoemaking, and more.

The Themes of the Métiers d’Art Chanel show

Each Métiers d’Art collection is often inspired by a specific historical or cultural theme.

The collections have taken inspiration from various places and periods, including Scotland, Byzantine art, the 1960s, and even ancient Egypt.

This theme serves as a creative backdrop for the collection.

The theme has not been announced for this year’s event, but has left us puzzling over what it could be.

A Huge Event for the City

Chanel’s Métiers d’Art shows are known for their grandeur and have been held in various international locations, from palaces in Austria to temples in Rome. The choice of location often ties into the theme of the collection.

These shows typically feature a fusion of art, fashion, and culture, with a diverse audience that includes celebrities, fashion influencers, and industry insiders. It’s not just a fashion show; it’s a multi-sensory experience.

While the specific venue for this show is yet to be revealed, Chanel’s past destination spectaculars have taken guests to enchanting settings such as a pontoon moored on Shanghai’s Huangpu River and the rococo salons of an 18th-century palace in Salzburg.

In Dakar, Senegal, iconic personalities like Pharrell Williams and Naomi Campbell graced the front row within the historic walls of Dakar’s former Palais de Justice.

Where Will It Be Held?

However, as Chanel prepares to mesmerise the world in Manchester, a question lingers: Could the revered Old Trafford, often regarded as the unofficial place of worship for the city, be the chosen stage for this star-studded spectacle?

Known as the birthplace of both rave culture and Britpop, Manchester has been a guiding force shaping Britain’s style DNA for generations.

It’s a city that has continually redefined the fashion landscape.

Haider Ackermann in Manchester

Recently, world-renowned designer Haider Ackermann, a favourite of actors like Timothée Chalamet, decided to unveil his groundbreaking collaboration with sports giant Fila not in his adopted home of Paris but in a disused rail depot right here in Manchester.

The city is also currently buzzing with the arrival of Factory International, a multi-million-pound arts destination that currently houses the largest-ever immersive environment created by the iconic Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, known for her celebrated collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

In essence, the Métiers d’Art Chanel show is a testament to Chanel’s dedication to the art of fashion and its reverence for the skilled artisans who contribute to the brand’s timeless elegance.

It’s an annual celebration of haute couture and craftsmanship, and it often sets the tone for the fashion world in the coming year.

Agyness Deyn’s Runaway Retirement?

One can’t help but wonder if this spectacular event might entice Oldham native and Lagerfeld favourite, Agyness Deyn, out of her runway retirement, creating an unforgettable fashion moment.

And who can resist the curiosity of famous friends of the house, delighting in an eccles cake, or a rag pudding?

Anyway, we’re all for it.

Welcome to Manchester!
