A new campaign released by made-to-order diamond jewellers Austen & Blake has named Manchester as the most photogenic city in the UK.

The campaign; created to find the best city in the UK to get married, looked at seven individual criteria to determine the result, including their visual appeal.

Manchester came out on top as the most geo-tagged city on Instagram with approximately 7.1 million tags, far more than other cities such as London (3.7 million) and Birmingham (4.2 million).

Not only was Manchester ranked as the most photogenic city by quite a considerable amount, but the cosmopolitan city was also crowned the second best city in the UK to get married in, falling just behind the capital, London.

Securing second place over every other city besides London, Manchester racked up an overall score of 167.1.

And, although the city only came out on top for one of the seven criteria (Instagram geo-tags), sitting 4th for number or transportation options (7), 5th for number of official wedding venues (51) and 6th for number of hotels (544) gave it the boost it needed to sit so high up on the leaderboard.

“Choosing the location of your wedding can often be one of the most difficult decisions as there are so many other factors that come into play,” says Austen & Blake’s Anthony French.

“That is why we worked with a set of 7 criteria that we deemed some of the most important factors when choosing a wedding location.”

“For many, capturing beautiful images that can be looked back on for years to come is one of the most important aspects of the big day, so it was interesting to find that Manchester was considered the most photogenic city in the UK, especially above London!

“Of course, choosing a wedding location is a very personal decision and what might be important to one person might not sit as high on your priority list, so whilst our data shows that London offers up the most options for a number of criteria, your special day won’t be a flop if you choose to tie the knot elsewhere as long as you are surrounded by those you love the most.”
