As the nation and the world continue in the battle against COVID-19, it’s no secret that our NHS has come under massive strain.
So much so that as we entered into the new year, the UK also entered into its third national lockdown, to help slow the spread of the virus.
Millions of us are stuck indoors once again – and with gyms and fitness classes closed, we’re unable to start the new year as we might have planned.
So in a bid to get the nation moving and support our physical and mental wellbeing, Manchester-based fitness and recovery brand Pulseroll are hosting a free online virtual fitness day in support of NHS Charities Together, with a complete mix of famous faces onboard.
On Saturday 6th February, Pulseroll will live stream fitness classes from a whole host of UK talent, including soap stars, reality TV royalty, sporting legends, Olympic athletes, fitness instructors, and the real heroes – our NHS doctors – to show us just how easy it is to work out in the comfort of your own home.
The virtual classes range from 20 to 45 minutes, starting at 7am for the early birds all the way up to 8pm in the evening, and you can join in as many as you like throughout the day.
Former I’m A Celebrity campmate Jake Quickenden will be hosting a one-of-a-kind HIIT workout, while Hollyoaks actress Sarah Jane Dunn will challenge us to a weighted Legs, Bums and Core class.
Love Island star Connagh Howard will put viewers through their paces with a Major Fitness Challenge, while actress-turned-yogi Gemma Merna will teach guests all about stretching and flexibility with an expert yoga session.
Emmerdale hunk Anthony Quinlan will set pulses racing with a Full Bodyweight Workout, and TV doctor-turned-Dancing on Ice professional skater Dr Tom Naylor will host a Strength Training Regime that he regularly uses as part of his off-ice training.
Dancing on Ice 2021 stars Joe-Warren Plant from Emmerdale and his professional skating partner Vanessa Bauer are also on board doing a special joint training routine.
Former professional footballer David Cotterill will dish out a difficult drill with a High Intensity Challenge, while Olympic gymnast and World, Euro and Commonwealth medallist Claudia Fragapane works on Whole Body Core and Active Stretch.
Actress and competitive weightlifter Jazmine Franks will focus on Building Muscle, Olympic bronze and World Championship silver medallist Desirée Henry will showcase a Cardio Masterclass, TV doctor Emeka Okorocha will task us with Extreme Body Pump, and Gold medallist Paralympian Richard Whitehead MBE is providing an Athletic Session.
Presenter Laura Hamilton is missing filming A Place in the Sun so much that she’s turning up the heat with an Ultimate Holiday HIIT, and curve model Sophia Brad will cool things down with a step-by-step demo and educational session on Easily Achievable Home Exercises for all fitness levels.
Plus Barry’s Bootcamp’s Joe Davies will have you feeling body parts you didn’t know existed with his Barry’s Bodyweight HIIT, while Dr Sara Otung provides the Ultimate Home Workout routine.
Pulseroll’s Virtual Fitness Day will be completely free for UK residents to watch and workout along with their favourite celebrities – all they ask is that anyone taking part in the event donates whatever they can to NHS Charities Together via their donations page, which you can access by visiting the live stream.
Whether that’s £1, £10, £100 or even more – the smallest amount can make the biggest difference if we all do it together.
“Donations mean we’re able to help NHS charities to support NHS staff, volunteers and patients at the centre of this crisis; and what better way to support them than by being active and staying at home,” says NHS Charities Together, CEO, Ellie Orton.
“Whether you’re one of the millions of people stuck at home really struggling with the closure of gyms and fitness facilities, or this is your first time doing a workout in quite a while – the aim of Pulseroll’s Virtual Fitness Day is to get the nation moving, while also raising as much money as possible for what I feel is an extremely important cause,” says Pulseroll CEO, Paul McCabe.
“For nearly the past 12 months our NHS has been under constant strain – and without it, many of us would be a lot worse off than we are right now.
“While all charities are worthwhile, we’re proud to have been supporting NHS Charities Together for the past six months and we are so excited to continue our relationship by announce our online fitness day.
“A lot of hard work and effort has gone into curating a live stream of varying talent and content to really give people at home everything they need to get up and start moving.
“Whether you’re a complete beginner or an expert athlete, please join us and don’t forget to donate whatever you can.”
