Dogs Trust Manchester, based in Denton, is celebrating a major milestone—its 10th anniversary of helping thousands of rescue dogs find loving homes across the region and beyond.
Since opening its doors in October 2014, the centre has successfully rehomed more than 7,300 dogs.
Dogs Trust Manchester
According to Lisa Eardley, Manager of Dogs Trust Manchester, the joy of seeing these dogs leave with their new families never fades.
“It’s absolutely fantastic that so many people choose to adopt a rescue dog when they are ready to welcome one into their life,” Lisa said.
“Although we’ve waved goodbye to thousands of dogs, we never tire of seeing them head off to start a new chapter in their lives.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who has helped our dogs find their place in a loving home.”
Over the past decade, the centre has rehomed dogs of all breeds and sizes, from Dachshunds to Dalmatians, and Bichon Frises to Saint Bernard’s.
What kind of dogs do the Dogs Trust accept?
Since opening, 82 puppies have been born at the centre, and the most common breeds arriving include Crossbreeds, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Jack Russell Terriers, Border Collies, and German Shepherds.
Among the rarest breeds to pass through its doors have been the Leonberger, Hungarian Puli, Bavarian Mountain Hound, Lancashire Heeler, Turkish Kangal Dog, and Japanese Chin.
Dogs Trust Manchester have fostered 1,000 dogs
The centre has also provided foster homes for nearly 1,000 dogs, thanks to the generosity of its volunteer foster carers.
To mark the special occasion, a party was held at the centre on Sunday, 20th October.
The celebration featured a guest of honour, Valdi, one of the centre’s dogs, who was first to enjoy a slice of the special doggie birthday cake.
The day also included a fun dog competition with categories such as “Most Handsome Boy”, “Prettiest Lady”, and “Best Golden Oldie”. Noodle, a proud rescue dog, took home the title of “Best Dogs Trust Rescue Dog”.
Thanking the local community
Lisa expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support from the local community: “We can’t thank everyone enough for supporting us, whether by adopting a dog, attending our events, dropping off donations, or volunteering on-site or as foster carers.
“We couldn’t do what we do without the help of our supporters.”
She added: “The love of a dog, especially a rescue dog, is like no other. Giving these dogs a second chance at a happy life is incredibly rewarding.
“On behalf of the thousands of dogs who have left our doors, we say thank you. We look forward to finding homes for many more dogs in the years to come.”
