At just 28, Hamish Graham has faced more than his share of life’s challenges.

Diagnosed with a rare brain tumour at the tender age of seven, Hamish’s early years were punctuated by hospital visits, treatments, and a relentless battle for survival.

Then, just as life seemed to be on an upward trajectory, the young man from Littleborough received another devastating diagnosis.

In the midst of the global pandemic, Hamish was diagnosed with leukemia in May 2020, at the age of 23.

Yet despite these harrowing experiences, Hamish’s spirit remains unbroken, and his focus is now on giving back.

Determined to make a difference for those following a similar path, Hamish has turned his life’s trials into a mission to raise funds for the charities that stood by him and his family during their darkest days.

Alongside his mother, Sarah, Hamish has launched Hamish’s MARVELous Night Out, a fundraising gala set to take place on the 28th of September at The Edwardian in Manchester. T

The event aims to raise vital funds for The Teenage Cancer Trust and The Christie Teenage and Young Adult Unit—two organisations that have been instrumental in providing support to young people like Hamish who are battling cancer.

Huge backing from the community

What started as a small initiative has grown into a large-scale event with backing from a wide array of local, national, and international businesses.

The support for Hamish’s cause has been overwhelming, with companies from across the North West rallying to contribute.

Among the local sponsors are Stockport-based coach operator Belle Vue, Dunkinfield-based Besseges Fire Protection, Fountains & Features in Oldham, and Independent Together’s Bury branch.

But the event’s reach extends beyond the North West, with national heavyweights such as Center Parcs, Seabourn Cruises, Radisson, and Selfridges also stepping up to the plate.

This outpouring of support highlights the unity that Hamish’s story has inspired.

Blues in Business

One particularly heartwarming aspect of the campaign is the involvement of Blues in Business, a network of Manchester City supporters.

Despite Hamish being a lifelong Manchester United fan, the group has thrown its full support behind his cause, demonstrating that rivalries can be set aside when it comes to supporting something bigger than football.

In a recent lunch, the group raised £1,200, further underscoring the power of community when it rallies around a shared goal.

Sarah Graham, Hamish’s mother

Sarah Graham, Hamish’s mother and co-organiser of the event, expressed her deep gratitude for the support they’ve received.

“The thought of anyone having to go through a cancer diagnosis and the treatment that comes with it without the support of these services is unimaginable,” she said.

“Unfortunately, we can’t change a diagnosis, but we can help to ensure that support is available to every single young person battling similar circumstances.”

The upcoming MARVELous Night Out is Hamish’s most ambitious fundraising effort yet.

With more than £38,000 already raised through previous initiatives, the Grahams hope this event will push their total even higher.

The evening will be hosted by Hits Radio presenter Mike Toolan and promises to be a night to remember, featuring a live band, a DJ set, a silent auction with exclusive, “money can’t buy” prizes, a drinks reception, and a raffle.

A love of film and football

True to Hamish’s passions, the night will also celebrate two of his greatest loves—films and football.

But at its core, the night is about something even bigger: giving back. For Hamish, it’s about ensuring that every young person facing cancer has access to the same level of care and support that he did.

It’s about making a difference in the lives of others, even as he continues to navigate his own journey.

The huge community response just goes to show to the impact that Hamish’s story has had on people from all walks of life—a story not just of survival, but of determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

As the countdown to the event begins, there are still ways for businesses and individuals to get involved.

Donations of raffle or auction prizes are welcome, and tickets for the night are still available.
