Manchester’s historic brewery, Joseph Holt, is reaching out to its devoted patrons as it gears up for its 175th birthday celebrations
They are creating a wonderful calendar to celebrate 175 years, and are looking for people to share their amazing memories from their pubs down the years.
A Legacy Spanning Six Generations
Established in 1849 by Joseph Holt, a weaver’s son, this independent brewery has stood the test of time.
Passed down through six generations, the business remains family-owned and has become an integral part of Manchester’s rich history.
Capturing Memories Across the Years
In honour of Joseph Holt’s 175th birthday, we’re creating a special 2025 calendar featuring cherished moments from both the past and present.
This calendar, dedicated to their loyal customers, will showcase the heartwarming experiences shared in their pubs and the joy of savouring their award-winning ales.
Joseph Holt Marketing Manager, Paul Longmire, expresses the pride in the brewery’s 175-year journey.
The calendar aims to reflect the deep affection and historical significance associated with Joseph Holt.
As a vital part of our success, customers have transformed our pubs into more than mere spaces for beer and food.
They’ve become social hubs, hosting charity events, and fostering a sense of community.

From Local Roots to 127 Beloved Pubs
With time, Joseph Holt has evolved into a prominent business owning 127 pubs across the North West.
The brand’s award-winning ales and beers have become beloved fixtures in these venues, creating a legacy cherished by patrons.
Charity Appeal for a Special Cause
To mark this monumental occasion, Joseph Holt is launching a two-year charity appeal to raise £500,000 for The Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute.
These institutions hold a significant place in the brewery’s history, and proceeds from the anniversary calendar will contribute to this noble cause.
Celebrating Memories, Supporting Causes
Paul Longmire emphasises the importance of customer involvement in the anniversary celebrations.
He said: “There is so much affection for Joseph Holt and so much history associated with our brewery.
“Staying in business for 175 years and going from strength to strength whilst preserving all our family aims is something to be proud of. So, we want to produce a special calendar to reflect this.
“Of course, are customers being a critical part of our success, not least because over the years it has become clear that our pubs are so much more than places to drink beer or enjoy delicious food.
“They are also social hubs, places to hold charity events and for our customers to enjoy a warm, welcome and feel part of a community.
“We really want the calendar to reflect this so are asking people to send in pictures showing their memories – past and present – of Joseph Holt.
“The calendar will be a lovely way to commemorate this and will also become a piece of history too. The pictures will also be used in a memory book – another special way to mark our 175th anniversary.”
As a token of gratitude, the brewery wishes to celebrate and immortalise these memories in the special calendar and memory book.
