The Christmas Markets are now open in Manchester, and everyone is feeling full of festive cheer.
To make sure you can plan for how much you’re likely to need to enjoy your day out (with a sausage and a gluhwein of course) we headed out to find the average prices of the most popular items at the different zones of the market.
Sausages
As a general rule, you’re looking at between £4.50 to £5.50 for the German-style sausages, frankfurters and currywurst across the markets.
The most expensive sausages we found were the £6 delicacies at the Lakeland Picnic stall on Albert Square at £6 for their Cumberland versions.
The biggest? That was the XXL we found half way down King Street for £5.50. It’s pretty huge.
Gluhwein
Nothing summons the spirit of Christmas like the smell of mulled wine. And there is gluhwein aplenty across the markets at the pop-up drinks stalls, served up in the famous Manchester market mugs that this year have an interactive design.
For gluhwein, you can expect to spend between £4.50 and £5 – but don’t forget to factor in the £3 deposit you’ll need to leave with the bar for the festive mug. The deposit will be returned if you give the mug back, or you can take it home as a keepsake.
There’s also the option to add shots of other liquors to make it an even boozier gluhwein for £7.
There is also non-alcoholic gluhwein available for £2.
Beer
German biers, lager and wheat beers are popular across the markets, with prices from £4.50 to £5 for a pint.
Prosecco
Sparkling prosecco is the big hit of the Christmas Markets. No, not just the usual fizzy wine, but with added glittery shots to make it a proper sparkly affair.
Expect to pay between £6.50 and £7.50 for a glass of the sparkling proseccos – that comes with a variety of different flavours – including a dash of plum and vanilla gin at Bar Humbug on Albert Square.
Dates and times
The Manchester Christmas Markets are open from November 9th until December 22nd. But this year the main hub on Albert Square will stay open for an extra day until December 23rd.
The Ice Village at Cathedral Gardens will stay open until January 5.
Opening times are 10am to 9pm for Albert Square’s main hub – although the market closes earlier on the other zones until December – but the bars stay open until 9pm.
