With just four weeks to go till the third Manchester Oktoberfest, the event organisers have revealed the five golden rules for getting the most out of it
Get bier
The one-and-only Oktoberfest beer is called Bavarian Festbeer. It looks like this.
It is a dark golden lager with a brownish hue and comes with a touch of sweetness and a strong and slightly bitter aftertaste. The beer has travelled 821 miles from a respected brewery in Bavaria to Manchester in a 24-thousand-liter beer tanker. During the whole process, the beer is always kept cool in 2°C to guarantee its freshness. Then it is pumped into guests’ glasses through a refined craft system.
Get stuffed
“Oktoberfest is much more than just beer”, says festival director Carsten Raun, A selection of typical Oktoberfest food is on offer such as hendl (grilled chicken), schweinebraten (roast pork), brezel (bread), and of course, a lot of wurst (pork sausages). Don’t forget to try bratwurst, the German-specialty pork sausage, pan-roasted and served hot with slightly-pungent yellow mustard and fermented sauerkraut. Try a cold beer from tap with a plate of sizzling bratwurst for the complete Oktoberfest experience.
Dress to impress
No suit or evening gown required. If you want to dress to impress wear traditional
lederhosen and dirndl. Lederhosen are short or knee-length leather breeches worn by Bavarian men. Mostly considered leisurewear these days, this is the perfect costume for Oktoberfest. Dirndl is the classic outfit for Bavarian women, consisting of a bodice, blouse, full dress and an apron. The apron knot implies the woman’s marital status so make sure you send out the right signal! Note: traditional Bavarian dress is not compulsory.
The early bird catches the best seat
The party tent is limited to 2000 people and tickets for the weekend are selling
fast, so if you want to attend the fabulous party, remember to book tickets
as soon as possible. Tickets are also available at the door if the event is not sold
out beforehand so don’t forget to turn up early to guarantee entry!
Bring cash
You can pay by card at the events but you are advised to bring cash to save you unnecessary hassle and give you more time to enjoy the wunderbar atmosphere.
