Three to See: B.Eat Street, Grease, and taking the heat

The Vamps are in town. Oh yes. If you’re not into the jangles of pubescent teenage boys, you might want to skip this in favour of the other great things going on around the city.

This weekend’s events will fill your schedule with craft beer, salt beef bagels, and burgers to put Five Guys to shame. If the party down at B.Eat Street doesn’t take your fancy, there’s a Grease movie experience going down at Old Granada Studios featuring free cocktails, movie screenings and live dancers.

If you’re hankering for a curry come Saturday but are sick of dialling up the takeaway, Zouk have put on a cookery school that’ll spice up your life without the need for a jar of Pataks.

So without further ado and in no particular order, here’s this weekend’s three to see.

Zouk Cookery School

Here’s one for the foodies out there. Zouk have set up a cookery school where curry lovers can head down and learn a thing or two from expert chefs. Each course only takes half a day and teaches you how to prepare and cook two starters, two main courses, a rice side dish, and either a naan or roti bread. So leave the Uncle Ben’s microwave rice at home and put the Homepride chicken tikka masala back in the store cupboard because Zouk cookery school will have you whacking together all kinds of herbs and spices in a fragrant creation fit for the gods.

Zouk Restaurant
Saturday 10am- 1.30pm
£80 (cheeky after payday treat)

B.Eat Street

B.Eat Street needs to be on your list of things to do this weekend. It offers a unique blend of bars and food vendors turning a quiet Manchester cul-de-sac into a buzzing drinker’s haven complete with a secret beer garden in the Great Northern Warehouse. Street offers up two new cocktail bars this year in the form of Junior Jackson’s, a live music venue, and The Golden Pineapple, a Cuban-style cocktail bar inspired by Havana’s historic La Piña de Plata. There will be draft beers and wines galore and a heavenly mix of classic cocktails to wash down the delectable delights provided by resident food vendor Eat New York. These bad boys specialise in salt beef bagels, burgers, subs, hot dogs and all things New York City. There will be plenty more pop-up eateries like Dirty Revolution, Paella Y Tapas and Burger Bear for your to chop your way through the afternoon. Might need to loosen a belt buckle or two.

Great Northern Warehouse,
Saturday-Sunday 12-12am.

Grease is the word live movie experience

If you’re a fan of Grease (and frankly who isn’t?) this movie experience at Old Granada Studios is set to be one to remember. They’ll be screening the nostalgic musical five times over the weekend. So if you’re really hopelessly devoted to the Grease gang, go crazy and watch all five showings – no one will judge you. There will also be surprise performances from professional dancers, a Grease themed cocktail menu, and American style street food dished out to you by some of Manchester’s best chefs. There’s no dress code but the folks behind the cinema experience are offering free cocktails to anyone who attends the event dressed as head T Bird Danny Zuko or, if they’re feeling brave, Sandy Olsson in that black cat suit. Bet you wish you didn’t eat that extra hot dog.

Old Granada Studios. £14.99
