The Alexandra, a beloved Grade II listed pub in Edgeley, has reopened its doors after an extensive renovation, preserving its Victorian heritage while enhancing the overall customer experience.

Robinsons Brewery, the family-run Stockport institution, has spearheaded the project, breathing new life into the pub and ensuring it remains a cherished part of the community.

The Alexandra

Steeped in history, The Alexandra has undergone a major refurbishment, particularly in its bar area and toilets.

The restoration project has carefully balanced modern updates with the preservation of its historic charm.

Here’s how the gorgeous new bar area looks

One of the most exciting discoveries was the uncovering of the original black and white Victorian tiled floor in the gents’ toilets.

Hidden beneath modern tiles for decades, the tiles have been expertly cleaned and restored, adding a unique touch of history to the space.

The bar area also saw significant transformations, with the removal of a low false ceiling revealing the original ceiling and ornate coving.

This has opened up the space, creating a more inviting atmosphere for customers.

Another architectural gem uncovered during the renovation was an original glazed screen that once separated the bar from the pub’s old ‘Off License.’

This screen has now been incorporated into the new back bar, serving as a striking reminder of the pub’s rich past.

The former ‘Off License’ area has been repurposed to include a new glass wash area and additional storage, allowing The Alexandra to cater more efficiently to its busy days while maintaining its historic character.

Tony, Business Development Manager at Robinsons, expressed his excitement about the reopening: “We’re excited for the community of Edgeley and beyond to experience the new-look Alexandra.

“This refurbishment is a fantastic thing for the local area, and we’re proud to have maintained the Alexandra’s character as a true community pub whilst keeping its historical charm.

“I’d also like to thank Steve, our Pub Partner, for his great ideas and support throughout the process.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone in and see how much they enjoy the new space.”

The refurbishment didn’t stop at the bar and architectural features; the ladies, gents, and accessible toilets were also upgraded as part of the project.

With its doors now open, The Alexandra is ready to welcome back locals and visitors alike, offering a beautifully restored space that combines history with modern comfort.
