When Six by Nico opened in Spring Gardens in the summer of 2019, its first six-course tasting menu was themed around the chippy tea.

‘The Chippie’ menu was a nostalgic nod to the past, with six dishes created based on the classics found in a traditional British fish and chip shop, each one re-imagined and re-created with a contemporary twist.

The new take on the chippy tea was back for the restaurant’s brief reopening last summer, albeit in a new, updated version.

And now comes news that you can make it yourself – at home.

Six by Nico masterclasses launched earlier this month, allowing customers to immerse themselves in the culinary creation of Chef Nico Simeone’s high-quality restaurant dishes with everything from prepping to cooking to plating.

Announcing themed masterclasses every week, ‘The Chippie’ will mark the first-ever theme with availability from 4th February, and is sure to brighten up lockdown.

Perfectly portioned for two, the six-course recipe box starts with “Chips & Cheese”: potato terrine, Parmesan royale, and curry emulsion, followed by “Scampi”: scrabster monkfish cheek, dill emulsion, gribiche, peas and beurre blanc.

A take on the “Steak Pie” is next: Speyside beef shin, ox cheek and tongue, burnt onion ketchup, mushroom duxelles and ‘meaty salsa’, followed by the main event, a “Fish Supper”: Shetland cod, pickled mussels, confit fennel, samphire and beer emulsion.

Then there’s a “Sausage Supper”: trio of pork (cheek, belly and sausage) with black pudding, salt baked celeriac and choucroute.

The feast concludes with the “Deep Fried Mars Bar” made with chocolate cremeux, salted caramel, blood orange gel and cocoa nib.

There are also vegetarian options for each dish available, and customers will be able to choose their box: regular, vegetarian, or one of each.

And if you need a helping hand, chef Nico Simeone will be on hand to help guide you through all the steps of his online video lessons, streamed to Six by Nico Masterclasses’ private YouTube channel.

Masterclasses offer a local delivery service within a strict 5-mile radius of Six by Nico Manchester, or a takeaway/pick up service from the restaurant at 60 Spring Gardens. They’re priced at £60 per box, with each box containing two portions. Visit masterclasses.sixbynico.co.uk to pre-order and find out more.
