If you’ve ever visited Dogs Trust Manchester, there’s a good chance that behind the scenes, or perhaps folding yet another mountain of fluffy blankets, you’d have spotted Mo Bowes, quietly and tirelessly doing her bit for Manchester’s four-legged friends.
Now, Mo is celebrating a remarkable ten years of volunteering, making her one of the longest-serving members of the Dogs Trust Manchester volunteer family, and it’s safe to say, the dogs aren’t the only ones who think she’s pawsome!
The incredible Mo Bowes

Mo’s incredible journey began back in 2015, shortly after she adopted her beloved Maisie, a sweet but shy crossbreed who had a tough start in life. Found abandoned as a puppy, Maisie needed a home, and Mo opened both her heart and her door.
But adopting Maisie wasn’t enough for Mo. After seeing how much care and love the staff and volunteers poured into helping dogs like Maisie, Mo signed up to volunteer, and she hasn’t looked back since!
“Once I brought Maisie home, I just knew I wanted to give something back to help all the other dogs still waiting for their second chance,” said Mo. “And here I am, ten years later!”
A woman of many talents (and towels!)
From dog walking and kennel cleaning to greeting visitors at reception, Mo has done it all. These days, she’s known as the Laundry Queen of Denton, keeping the dogs’ bedding soft, snuggly, and clean — no small feat when the centre is caring for over 100 dogs at a time!
“It might sound like a small job, but clean bedding makes such a difference,” Mo said. “Seeing a dog curled up on a comfy blanket I’ve just washed and dried — that’s what keeps me coming back. Knowing I’ve helped make their day a little better is all the reward I need.”
A heartfelt thank you from the team

Kerry Gormley, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Dogs Trust Manchester, says Mo is a true star:
“Mo has done so much for our dogs over the last ten years. Whether it’s walking dogs, chatting to visitors, or making sure our kennels are stocked with fresh bedding, we can always count on her. She’s an inspiration, and we’re so grateful to have her as part of the team.”
Join Mo and make a difference!
As Mo celebrates this special milestone, she has a simple message for anyone thinking about volunteering:
“Do it! It’s one of the most rewarding things you can do. You’ll meet lovely people, learn loads — and most importantly, you’ll be helping dogs who really need you.”
