Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a roast turkey and all the trimmings, falling asleep watching the Queen’s speech and a tin of your favourite sweets.

Traditionally, you were either a Quality Street or Roses household. You couldn’t be both. Then Celebrations and Heroes came along to make things a bit more complicated.

Usually, there was always a handful of sweets left at the bottom of the tin which would only get eaten when there was nothing left to eat. In our house it was always the coconut eclairs.

Last year, John Lewis became the first retailer to offer a pick and mix option so you could fill a tin with your favourite sweets. We sent a volunteer down to the Trafford Centre to investigate.

The Quality Street pop-up shop is coming back to John Lewis Trafford Centre – and this year it’s even better.  Last year, you had to pick a minimum of three different varieties. This year, you can fill the tin with just one – your very favourite.

Looks like there’s going to be an awful lot of coconut eclairs left there.

And that’s not all.

This year there will be an extra sweet to choose from. It’s called the Crispy Truffle Bite and it has a smooth praline centre mixed with deliciously crispy cereal bites, covered in milk chocolate and it will be wrapped in the John Lewis Christmas colours of black and gold.

There will also be a personalisation station where you will be able to create a bespoke tin of the much-loved sweets by replacing the word Quality with your name e.g. Mary Street or Smith Street.

Anyone who bought an exclusive John Lewis & Partners tin of Quality Street last year and kept it will be able to return it and refill it for a lower price.

Prices are as follows:
• Choose your favourites and personalise the tin £15
• Choose your favourites in an exclusive John Lewis & Partners tin £12
• Refill your exclusive John Lewis & Partners tin from last year £10
• Mixed ready filled tin £7.50

To be able to fill a tin with just one sweet, customers will be asked to show their My John Lewis loyalty card. Customers who are not current account holders will be able to sign up on the spot for free.

The new, exclusive pop-up Quality Street shop opens at the John Lewis Trafford Centre store on September 26th.

No doubt we’ll be sending someone along to investigate, like we did last year. After all, someone’s got to do it.
