Aside from a host of world firsts, Manchester was once the international centre of the world’s cotton industry.
Dubbed Cottonopolis, in 1871 a staggering 32% of global cotton production took place right here in Greater Manchester, with the city importing up to a billion tonnes of raw cotton each year.
“I’m an Alty girl who moved to the dirty South 4 years ago. I bought my I Love Mcr t-shirt when I went to see Noel Gallagher at Blenheim Palace last summer to show that I am proud of my city and proud to be Northern!”
From today, all I Love MCR® merchandise is now 100% organic. Now it’s time for Manchester to learn from its history and champion a better future for the city by pioneering sustainable change. And as the city’s trusted brand and symbol of civic pride, it’s our responsibility to lead by example.
Designed to be recycled again and again, once any of our items are worn out they’re designed to be easily and most importantly, sustainably, turned into new products.
Every year, 100 billion new items of clothing are produced while a truck full of clothing is burnt or sent to landfill every single second.
Slowing fast fashion down slightly won’t fix this, but when new products are made responsibly from recovered waste material, it really does change everything – and that’s I Love MCR’s pledge. I Love MCR® strive for sustainability excellence to continue posting clothing around the world without leaving a mark on our planet.
“I purchased the items as I’m from the North (Huddersfield) but living in Colorado. It meant a lot to me to show my support and stand up to what I believe in. Keep up the good work!”
We’ve shipped thousands of items of clothing, merchandise, gifts and souvenirs – all over the world.
The global reach of I Love MCR® has spanned the world, including Europe, America, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand – and it’s our duty to ensure we’re creating and selling responsible products, to ensure a brighter future for not only Manchester, but for each and every country we send our products to.
We’re responsible for investing in our future by taking the reigns of how our garments and products are made – and the mark they leave on the planet.
And investing in sustainable organic, ethically sourced clothing is just the beginning.
What starts off as a puddle can soon turn into a wave – and as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, it’s our job to set an example.
“I live in the tropics, in Far North Queensland, Australia … But I was born in Manchester! Manchester will always be my home. I love and cherish our city … there’s nothing like the warmth of Mancunians!”
Our new range of eco-friendly products can now be purchased online and will officially launch at Greater Manchester festival, Parklife.
The organisers of the Heaton Park event enforce a Green Pledge scheme to ensure the weekend is environmentally friendly.
We couldn’t think of a better brand to partner up with for our launch, with a dedicated I Love MCR® stall on site all weekend to encourage festival-goers to become more eco-conscious while also supporting their city.
“Most people know how passionate I am about our city region,” says Parklife co-founder Sacha Lord.
“We have used I Love MCR® for Parklife perks. I always point people towards the app and now I can point customers toward their clothing stall to purchase proper Manchester merch.
“I Love MCR® actually care about the city and support it, giving back to great causes.”
