A contemporary Pan-Asian delicatessen by MasterChef champion Ping Coombes, named Ping Pan-Asian, has opened in Selfridges Manchester Trafford store.

Born and raised in the town of Ipoh in Malaysia, which is famous for its pomelo fruit, chicken noodles and Ipoh white coffee, Ping was inspired by her mother’s cookery when she was growing up.

Following her MasterChef win in 2014, Ping worked around the world as a Global Malaysia Kitchen Ambassador, published her first cookbook Malaysia, made numerous TV appearances and was consultant for several restaurant projects.

Ping Pan-Asian is Ping’s first solo dining project, inspired by an original taste of Malaysian-Chinese cuisine, and can be found in the Foodhall on the Upper Floor.

Open for takeaway at lunch and dinner, the menu includes Pan-Asian dishes such as Malaysian chicken curry, Korean hot wings, Thai fish cakes, and Vietnamese king prawn rolls ready to pick up throughout the day.

There will also be fresh dim sum including beef siu mai, prawn and chive dumplings, and roasted duck dumplings.

Ping Pan-Asian will also be offering a range of bubble teas in flavours such as honeydew melon, lychee, passionfruit, and white peach.

The highly Instagrammable drink, which originates in Taiwan, has developed a cult following in the UK thanks to a colourful base made from tea, fruit, coffee or milk and chewy “pearls” at the bottom of the cup.

“I’m delighted to be collaborating with Selfridges Manchester Trafford Centre on my new Ping Pan-Asian delicatessen,” said Ping.

“We’ve worked closely together to perfect the menu and they really share my passion and enthusiasm for fresh ingredients and delicious flavours. I’m excited to be open and welcome guests to enjoy our fresh and incredibly tasty food.”

Ping Pan-Asian is the first UK launch from PappaRich, a Malaysian brand known for its authentic pan-Asian signature dishes and modern Malaysian street food.

Branches of the new delicatessen have opened simultaneously in Selfridges intu Trafford Centre and Selfridges London Oxford Street.

“It has been a real pleasure to work with Ping on this project and we’re thrilled to be launching Ping Pan-Asian exclusively in Selfridges,” said Hannah Bass from Selfridges.

“Her passion and expertise in Pan-Asian cuisine have led to a fantastic contemporary offer. I am sure visitors to both our London and Manchester Trafford stores will enjoy discovering the new eatery and delicatessen offer.”

Ping Pan-Asian is open now at Selfridges Foodhall, Upper Floor, intu Trafford Centre, from 10am Monday to Friday and from 11.30am on Sundays.
