Memories of Luke Leadbelly

Clubs and event organisers across Manchester have paid tribute to Luke, recognising him not only as a talented artist but also as a genuine and caring individual.

Hit and Run, a local club night, shared their memories of Luke: “He was a key figure in the early days of our night. Luke played at so many of our events, from boat parties at Outlook Festival to our takeovers at Fabric London. He was a wicked DJ, dedicated producer, and one of the sweetest spirits you could ever hope to meet. He will always be remembered with the utmost affection by all of us here at Hit and Run.”

Katie Cooper, another close friend and DJ, reflected on their long-standing friendship, writing, “LJ, Luke, Beeb. I could write a million words to describe our lives growing up together over the last 17 years, but there aren’t any words to describe how proud I am to have been your friend. My heart is truly broken, and it’s hurting to imagine a world without you in it.”

Jonny Opo, a DJ and sound engineer, also shared his memories: “This one hurts bad. Gonna miss you, our Luke. You were there through all the early rave days, your energy and mischievous grin were infectious. I’ll never forget the back-to-backs in dirty warehouses and fields – you lived for it with me and the rest of the crew.”

Rich Reason, a fellow DJ, expressed his sadness at the news, saying, “Really gutted to hear that our friend Luke has just died.

“All happened so quickly, it’s difficult to get your head around it.

“He was such a sweet and kind soul, with the cheekiest and widest smile. Luke was a key presence in so many milestone moments for Hit and Run and will never be forgotten.”

As the Manchester music community comes together to celebrate Luke’s life, it’s clear that his impact will be felt for years to come.

His music, his energy, and his spirit will continue to resonate with those who knew him, and his legacy will live on through the memories he created and the love he shared with the world.
