Flair, foam, fire and theatre are all on the menu at Manchester’s newest cocktail bar, Liquorice which promises to create a drama out of cocktail hour.

Based on Pall Mall Street off King’s Street, the former Destinos restaurant has been transformed into a chic cocktail lounge and is having a soft launch throughout August.

ILoveManchester.com so went down for a sneak preview and we were wowed by the signature Liquorice cocktail, so much so we persuaded General Manager Ben Brooks to give us the recipe.

Try it at home or better still, visit this new watering hole which will specialise in cocktails and has a lip smacking drinks menu.

We loved the muted decor, booth seating and outside tables ideal for a cigarette and cocktail. But most of all we loved the cocktails. The Liquorice cocktail itself, priced £6.95, was invented by Ben and comes in two layers. You can sup each layer or mix it up, either way it’s a fantastic liquorice taste on the palate, managing to be both refreshing and hard hitting.

The brainchild of restauranteur/co-owner Mark Whyte (one of the names behind the infamous Chop Houses), Liquorice promises bar nibbles very, very soon.

And Ben is set to take centre stage bringing theatre to cocktails with foam, flares and flavour.

We tried his twist on our favourite Espresso Martini and cannot recommend it enough.
