Kidical Mass Manchester is back with a resounding call to action: “Let’s Go Again!”
Following the success of their inaugural mass family bike ride, they’re on a mission to encourage even more families to reclaim Manchester’s streets for children this September.
A Family-Friendly Ride Through the Heart of Manchester
On Sunday, September 17th, families and Manchester residents are invited to participate in this family ride, aimed at taking back the streets for our youngest citizens.
Organised by parents from across the city region, this family-friendly ride kicks off at 11 a.m. from Central Library on St Peter’s Square.
A Vibrant Display of Child-Friendly Cycling
The first Kidical Mass Manchester ride in May saw a spectacular turnout, with 500 children and adults pedalling through the city centre, showcasing the joy of child-friendly cycling.
Advocating for Safer Streets
The goal of the autumn ride remains unchanged: to emphasise the necessity for safer streets for children and to urge city leaders to prioritise creating a secure environment for children to cycle, walk, scoot, and play.
The organisers draw inspiration from the success of their debut ride and aspire to make these outings a regular occurrence until Manchester boasts safe infrastructure citywide, making it the natural choice for families.
Rallying for Change
Layla Siebert, one of the organisers, shared her thoughts: “May’s first Kidical Mass family bike ride in Manchester was an amazing display of unity among families from across the city.
“We collectively and passionately urge our leaders to prioritise child-friendly streets.
“It was a massive, joyful demonstration of our desire for safer, healthier streets for children and their caregivers.
“Now is the time to build a better future for the city’s kids, and we call on more people from all over Manchester and its surroundings to join us on the next ride through our city.”

City Leaders to Experience the Change
Siebert extends a warm invitation to city leaders to partake in the autumn ride and experience the joy firsthand, stating, “We welcome city leaders to witness how Manchester can transform when we prioritise streets that are safe enough for children to cycle, walk, scoot, and play.”
The Voices of Young Cyclists
The ride will culminate at Whitworth Park, offering an optional ‘bring your own picnic.’ This time, there will be a dedicated children’s speakers corner and creative post-ride activities.
Pauline Johnston, another organiser, emphasises, “Kidical Mass Manchester provides a glimpse of what our city streets could be like when cars aren’t the dominant presence.
“This time, we’ll amplify the voices of our children, providing them a platform to discuss, imagine, and ask questions about the future of our city.”
An Exciting, Child-Centric Route
The ride promises to be stewarded, fun, and child-paced, winding its way through the city, including parts of Deansgate and Oxford Road.
Expect a burst of color, cheer, and a festive atmosphere as you pedal through Manchester’s streets.
The ride will end at Whitworth Park again with an optional ‘bring your own picnic’.
This time there will be a children’s speakers corner and creative activities for kids to get involved post-ride.
Joining a Global Movement
Kidical Mass is part of a global movement, with over 200 grassroots Kidical Mass groups organizing rides across Europe this year.
These initiatives share a common goal: advocating for changes in our cities to provide children with the space they need to enjoy the freedom and safety they deserve.
