Oldham’s Kevin Sinfield, one of rugby’s most respected figures, has once again set out to prove the extraordinary lengths friendship and love can inspire.
In honour of his late teammate Rob Burrow, who passed away earlier this year after a courageous fight with motor neurone disease (MND), Sinfield is taking on his most gruelling challenge yet: running over 230 miles in just seven days.
This will be Kevin’s fifth epic fundraising challenge.
Kevin Sinfield
This year’s challenge began in spectacular style this weekend at Liverpool’s beloved Santa Dash, where more than 8,000 participants donned festive attire to join Sinfield along the city’s picturesque waterfront.
Burrow, a legendary Leeds Rhinos player and devoted father of three, was diagnosed with MND in 2019. His courage in facing the devastating disease resonated with millions.
The incurable condition affects the brain and nerves and is more common among people in their 60s and 70s.
Rob Burrow, inspiration
Despite the illness, Burrow became a inspirational hero until his passing in June at just 41 years old.
Sinfield’s latest challenge, “Running Home for Christmas,” is as much a physical feat as it is a tribute.
His route weaves through key locations across the UK, including Wrexham, Gloucester, Belfast, Glasgow, Hull, Northampton, and Leicester, before culminating in a deeply personal finale.
On the final day, the Oldham native will run from Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium to his Saddleworth home, nestled in the Pennine Hills.
The Prince of Wales, a staunch supporter of Sinfield’s mission, shared words of encouragement in a heartfelt video: “What you and Rob have achieved is remarkable. This new challenge is a fitting tribute to Rob’s legacy, and I know he’ll be with you every step of the way.”

Sinfield, who has already raised nearly £10 million through previous efforts, remains undeterred by the physical toll.
MND Community
Members of the MND community are joining Sinfield for individual miles of the route, reinforcing the spirit of unity that has defined his campaign.
Funds raised will support organisations like the Darby Rimmer Foundation, established by former Liverpool defender Stephen Darby after his own MND diagnosis in 2018.
As he runs through cities and towns, gathering support and spreading awareness, Sinfield’s journey stands as a testament to the power of friendship, resilience, and the unyielding human spirit.
