If anything is likely to bring out Manchester’s quaffers and schmoozers in full force, then the glitzy opening of a new San Carlo venture is probably it.
“late lounge location
for the discerning
30-something Mancunian.”
Fumo, the fifth city centre premises of the San Carlo family, was officially launched last night with a suitably dazzling fanfare of fizz, fancy canapés and even a flashy bar-mounting saxophonererist.
Located in the swish new One St Peters Square, Fumo is aimed at combining Cicchetti-style small plate dining with a (much-needed) late lounge location for the discerning 30 something Mancunian.
Beautifully marble-clad in typical San Carlo style, Fumo looks and feels like the edgy sibling of the restaurant chain’s King Street flagship, and will almost certainly be a huge hit with the city’s scenesters.
Considering the howling winds and golf ball hailstones in the preceding afternoon, the size of the attending crowd at the launch is testament to inherent lure of San Carlo and with lashings of cocktails, menu samplers (the risotto with truffle was really good) and entertainment, they most certainly didn’t disappoint.
Alongside Turtle Bay and the wider regeneration of the surrounding St Peter’s Square, San Carlo looks like they might have just filled a massive Fumo-shaped gap in the Manchester market.
