A Journey from Pop-Up to Culinary Excellence

The story of House of Fu began in 2014 as a pop-up sensation at Belgrave Music Hall, winning the prestigious ‘Best of the Best’ award at the British Street Food awards.

Over the years, the concept evolved and expanded, drawing inspiration from global culinary destinations like New York, Tokyo, Portland, and Los Angeles.

In 2021, the first House of Fu location opened on Leeds’ The Headrow, quickly gaining a devoted following for its innovative flavours and creative twists on Japanese favourites.

Owners Simon Stevens and Ashley Kollakowski share their excitement for Manchester’s vibrant food scene, saying, “There’s such an exciting food scene in Manchester, and there seems to be more great openings announced every week; we’re really excited to be part of it!”

Meet the Culinary Mastermind

Leading the creative kitchen team at House of Fu Manchester is Ben Iley, who brings a wealth of experience from his 10-year adventure in Tokyo’s culinary scene.

After working at renowned establishments like Aquavit, The Tokyo American Club, and Fujimamas, Ben honed his skills alongside world-renowned chefs, including Marcus Samuelsson and Bill Granger.

Most notably, he worked with Ivan Orkin, the genius behind the internationally acclaimed Ivan Ramen.

Ben Iley’s vision for House of Fu is clear: “We want House of Fu to be somewhere chefs want to train as much as they want to eat.”

Expect a dynamic menu with weekly specials that showcase the team’s creativity and dedication to delivering the best ramen experience in Manchester.

A Fusion of Cultures and Art

While House of Fu draws inspiration from the bowl culture and aesthetics of L.A. and Tokyo ramen bars, the team is equally known for collaborating with local artists and creators to craft eye-catching merchandise.

As they fine-tune the Manchester space, House of Fu will partner with local suppliers, makers, and creators to shape the venue’s unique look and feel.
