Richmond Tea Rooms

With the summer wedding season fast approaching, plenty of brides and their friends are planning the perfect hen do.

With its wealth of quality bars, restaurants and hotels, Manchester has long been a perfect destination for groups of hens.

But if you’re looking for something a bit quirky or different to the usual bar crawls for your hen do, we’ve got a few ideas for you.  From crazy golf to mad hatter tea parties, there’s something for everyone here.

Social darts

Darts has long been a popular pub sport, but now it’s gone all sophisticated in Manchester with the launch of “social darts” venue Flight Club.  Based inside a huge building off King Street, it’s fairground themed with a brilliant central bar area and your own private darts pod for interactive games complete with video action replay of the winning moments.  You can book single or double oches, for anything from 3 to 30 people. For more details visit their website.

Alice in Wonderland tea party

Richmond Tea rooms

If you’re up for a bit of fancy dress, then the Richmond Tearooms’ regular Mad Hatter’s Tea Party events could be just the ticket.  This quirky venue in Manchester’s Gay Village is themed like Alice in Wonderland and is open seven days a week for afternoon teas and drinks. A couple of times a month they also do full-on Wonderland-themed tea party events where you can really get into the spirit of Lewis Carroll’s fantasy novel.  But be warned, these events sell out FAST.  The next ones are on May 24th, June 7th and 14th, July 5th and 19th and August 9th.  For full details, visit their website.

80s/90s/Abba themed cruise

Manchester River Cruises

If your party is all on board for a nautical theme, this could be the perfect choice. Manchester River Cruises have lots of themed events on board the Princess Katherine  which sails around Manchester and Salford.   You could go for the ABBA Disco Boat, Boat Tropicana with an 80s theme or a full-on 90s party night.  For more details see their website.

Private karaoke

Who doesn’t love a good old sing-song to pop classics by Mariah, Elton, Madonna and Wham?  If you don’t fancy fighting for the microphone at a karaoke bar you can book out one of the zany private rooms at K2 karaoke club in Manchester’s China Town.  It boasts 30 private karaoke rooms with capacity for groups of six up to 60.  And the price you pay per person for the room hire is fully redeemable against your drinks.  Bonus!  For details see their website.

Book out a private cinema

What could be better than having you and your hens all together for a private screening of your favourite films?  The King Street Townhouse boutique hotel has a super-luxurious private cinema in its basement that can seat up to 20 people – and you can add in drinks and snacks to your package too. And yes, that’s Dirty Dancing playing in the image above. It’s the first choice to be screened at your hen do, let’s be honest.  For booking see their website.

Make your own gin

If your hen group is partial to a gin, what better way to commemorate the occasion than by making your very own bottle of the tipple?   Manchester Three Rivers Gin run their award-winning interactive Gin Experience over at the City of Manchester Distillery in Redbank

Tour the distillery, learn about the intriguing history of gin, and gain an understanding of how gin’s diverse flavours are concocted.  As well as four complimentary drinks on the tour, you are then let loose on their mini copper pot stills where you create your very own personalised bottle of gin to take home.  Maximum of 30 guests per tour.  For details see their website here.

Crazy golf

If your last experience of crazy golf was on a seaside holiday as a child, get ready to have your mind blown by Junkyard Golf.   Described as crazy golf gone epic, it’s nine holes through crazy settings while music plays and retro cocktails are guzzled.    They book in eight people per time slot, but bigger groups can get back-to-back time slots so you can follow each other around the course.  For details visit their website.

Brought to you in association with PlusVoucherCode, where you will find a whole host of discounts for everything from fashion and beauty, restaurants, hotels and car hire.
