The Grenadier Guards are set to return to Manchester for a grand celebration marking the 60th anniversary of their Freedom of the City, an honour bestowed upon them on March 4, 1964.

The milestone will be celebrated with a series of exciting events, starting with a spectacular Freedom Parade and concluding with a family fun day, promising a weekend to remember for Manchester residents.

The festivities will kick off on Saturday, 31st of August, at 10:30 am with the Freedom Parade.

Starting from Manchester Central Library, the Grenadier Guards will march past the Cenotaph, down Princess Street, Portland Street, and Oxford Street, before returning to the library.

This grand march will showcase the Guards with ‘colours flying, drums beating, and bayonets fixed’, reviving the historic privilege granted six decades ago.

Concert at Victoria Warehouse

Grenadier Guards

Following the parade, the Regimental Band of the Grenadier Guards will host a free concert at the Victoria Warehouse in Old Trafford at 2:30 pm.

Doors for this event open at 1.30 pm.

Known for its vibrant atmosphere, Victoria Warehouse is set to provide the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable musical experience.

A family fun day extravaganza

Victoria Warehouse will then be transformed for the ultimate Family Fun Day on Sunday 1st September, welcoming families from across the city to enjoy a host of activities for free including The Greatest Showman Experience, circus acts, a silent disco, an inflatables park, exotic animals and more!

The fun day, which promises to be the perfect end to the school summer holidays, will begin at noon and finish at 5 pm.

The Grenadier Guards will also be in attendance, with guests being given the chance to get up ‘close and personal’ to one of the country’s major tourist attractions.

This event, free to the public, promises to be the perfect end to the summer holidays, offering a unique opportunity to interact with the Grenadier Guards up close.
