Proper pies, natural wines, and very sexy coffees: why the new menu at The Anthologist is well worth a look

The Anthologist has already made a name for itself by installing a Negroni fountain in the bar this summer.

Since opening at the beginning of July, the sleek bar and restaurant has been kept busy dishing out cool cocktails and crowd-pleasing foodie classics to the masses, with many opting to dine al fresco on the brilliant terrace.

Now, in preparation for the incoming autumn/winter season, the menus have been given a seasonal refresh. Highlights include a special new pie menu, a sumptuous selection of natural wines, and a sexed-up coffee list that takes inspiration from the team’s travels around the globe.

Pies, pies, pies

Proper comfort food never goes unappreciated in Manchester, especially pies. That’s why we’re so excited about the new pie menu.

Devised by Michelin-starred Great British Menu chef Chris Harrod and Drake and Morgan head chef Rob Mitchell, the ingredients for each pie have been foraged locally on Chris’s doorstep where possible. From venison and savoy cabbage to pumpkin and shiitake mushroom, there’s plenty of drool-worthy options to get your chops round when the weather turns and we all start craving those hearty winter-warmers (with generous lashings of gravy on top, of course).

A sexy new coffee menu

The never-ending 2018 caffeine hype continues with the introduction of a new range of sexed-up options – not that we’re complaining.

Exciting new introductions include the classic cortado (a Spanish-style latte made using equal parts espresso and warm milk) and the beetroot latte (first popularised in Manchester by Ancoats General Store last year) alongside alternative milk options such as coconut and almond milk latte. A true delight to the senses, without any of the heavy lactose.

Other new, exotic additions that have us pepped-up include Moon Milk made with warm milk, ashwagandha powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, beetroot, coconut oil agave and lavender – and the bullet proof coffee, inspired by the team’s trips to the US. Made with espresso, grass-fed butter and XCT oil, it’s currently the “it” coffee in the States and brings mental clarity like no other cup of coffee can, or so they say.

Natural wines

There’s no doubt about it. Natural wines are all the rage now and The Anthologist is seizing the moment. They’ve introduced a new wine list to the table that spans all the hues, from crimson and pink to red, orange and white.

If you’re heading in for dinner, ask your server to recommend one to pair with your meal.  Because they’re natural, the flavours will be more pronounced and make a stellar match if you choose wisely.

We’ve only just skimmed the surface here. The new menu is set to be released on September 17th. Book now and get down to try it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
