The new “it” cocktail: negroni fountain arrives at new Anthologist in St Peter’s Square

The humble negroni – once a vestige of old Italian aperitivo cocktail culture – has steadily risen in popularity to become the “it” cocktail of the decade. Even Lidl went and released negroni flavoured crisps a few years back.

Since London craft distillers Sipsmith successfully repealed the 1751 Gin Act back in 2009, kicking off what is now referred to as the gin renaissance, the little-known cocktail combo of gin, sweet vermouth and Campari has steadily risen to new heights of popularity.

Forget the cosmopolitan, it’s now the negroni’s time to shine. To prove it, the Anthologist has installed a negroni fountain in their bar on St. Peter’s Square. Yes, a negroni fountain. They certainly know the way to our hearts.

Working with one of Tanqueray’s new exotic summer gins, Flor de Sevilla, the Anthologist’s fountain offers up a Spanish twist on the classic Italian cocktail. Harnessing the flavour of bittersweet Seville oranges, the gin offers a sweet profile, with notes of tangerine and coriander.

Inspired by traditional Spanish drinking fountains and decorated with azulejos tiles, the fountain is surrounded by a mini orange grove bursting with leafy green foliage, orange blossom and zestful citrus fruits.

Simply head over to the bar to order a rose negroni, then make your way over to the eye-catching fountain with your rocks glass filled with ice and orange.
