Update 24th March: Following the most recent advice to stay at home, the drive-in cinema will be postponed until further notice. Refunds will take place within seven days.

Cinemas may have closed thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, but film fans can still get their fix in Manchester thanks to a new series of drive-in screenings.

Family-friendly films will include The Secret Life of Pets 2, Mary Poppins Returns, Toy Story 4, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse and the 2019 version of Dumbo.

And in line with the new guidelines on social distancing, families will be able to enjoy the films from the comfort of their own car.

Hosted by Manchester’s One Agency, the drive-in cinema will be hosted at EventCity, the North’s largest conference, exhibition and multi-purpose venue.

Priced at £20 per vehicle, there will be two film screenings each day at 2pm and 6pm, which range from certificates U to 12a, so they can be enjoyed by all of the family.

Displayed across three screens, all the movies will be streamed in high-quality formats, allowing for the best cinema experience.

Organisers say the events will be a space for people to come and enjoy the escape of a cinema experience with their family, all whilst sticking to social-distancing guidelines.

You don’t need to leave your car, and you can bring your own food if you want to enjoy the show from the comfort of your own vehicle.

And for visitors who wish to leave your car for a bathroom break, they say there will be many toilets on-site, all of which will only allow one person at a time and will be regularly cleaned down.

Hand sanitizer will be readily available throughout the location, including within the toilets, which will also be fully stocked with hand-soap and running water.
