The small village of Dobcross, near Oldham,  is celebrating a prestigious honour as its very own Dobcross Band Social Club has been named one of the top clubs in the United Kingdom by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

It’s not the only pub in Oldham that’s been making waves, as the Fox and Pine was named the best club in Greater Manchester earlier this year, and is in the running for the best pub in the U.K.

Must be something in the water!

Dobcross Band Social Club

This single-story gem, constructed in 1967, stands proudly with superb views from its beautiful bowling green, capturing the essence of community spirit.

The club has been a cherished fixture in Dobcross for over a century, offering its members and visitors an array of exceptional experiences.

Dobcross Band Social Club is renowned for its commitment to fostering a welcoming atmosphere and serving top-quality real ale, cider, and perry.

CAMRA Club of the Year

This commitment has not only earned it a repeat title as the local CAMRA Club of the Year but also secured its place as a runner-up in the Regional Club awards.

One of the club’s standout features is its dedication to brass music, boasting not one, but three in-house brass bands.

The Dobcross Silver Band, the Dobcross Youth Band, and the Brass Monkeys all call this club home.

These musical ensembles are an integral part of the local cultural scene and provide a rich musical tapestry for the community.

Inside the club, members and guests can enjoy a range of top-quality beers, wines, spirits, and award-winning pork pies.

The cozy bar lounge offers comfortable seating, while the well-equipped games room, complete with a full-size snooker table, provides entertainment for all.

For those seeking larger gatherings, the club’s spacious function room is available for events such as weddings and birthdays, as well as concerts and rehearsals.

This multi-purpose space reflects the club’s commitment to serving the broader community beyond its regular patrons.

Beyond the music and drinks, Dobcross Band Social Club extends its warm embrace to the village and surrounding areas through various community events, including monthly coffee shops and weekly pilates and stretching classes.

This recognition by CAMRA as one of the top clubs in the UK is a testament to the club’s enduring commitment to quality, community, and the preservation of authentic ale traditions.

The final winner of the National Club of the Year title will be announced in early 2024. Still, for now, Dobcross Band Social Club and the entire village of Dobcross have every reason to celebrate their remarkable achievement on the national stage.

The club and its members look forward to continuing their rich legacy of fostering community bonds, supporting local talent, and providing a welcoming haven for all who pass through their doors.
