This is the magical moment a couple got engaged on stage with the Spice Girls – with 50,000 fans cheering them on in Manchester.

Many fans were left in tears as the Spice Girls – Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Melanie Brown – invited Lee Christie on to the stage to propose to his partner Duane Watters.

Duane is a huge Spice Girls fan and Lee wanted to make proposal as memorable as possible, which he certainly did as he got down on one knee with the four Spice Girls gathered around him on Friday night at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite the romance of the moment, Scary Spice Mel B couldn’t resist a joke afterwards, saying: “Make sure you sign a prenup”.

Naturally, it was a yes from Duane – and the newly-engaged couple got to pose for pictures with their pop idols before leaving the stage to watch the rest of the show.

Fans in the crowd tweeted their delight about the magical moment, with @Josie_Hayden saying: “OK so this guy just proposed to his boyfriend on stage at the Spice Girls and I cried.”, and @gabbyfabrizio said: “I shouldn’t be allowed out my house, a guy just proposed to his boyfriend on stage at spice girls and I’m now stood crying with mascara all down my face.”

Friday was the second of the Spice Girls’ huge Manchester gigs, and their tour continues with a third, sold out night at the Etihad on Saturday night.

Their opening gig in the city was hit by torrential rain on Wednesday night – although the Spice ladies did their best to style it out in see through rain ponchos and umbrellas.

There was no such need for waterproofs on Friday though, and it looks set fair for a good night on Saturday too.
